ballyard7 - 2011-06-15 10:15 AM Congrats to all that got it.....Everyone has their IM that they would like to do, but this one has absolutely no appeal to me.  I wouldn't do it if I was offered a free entry.  I can't stand the NE part of this country.  I'm sure just like some of you NE people can't stand the south.  To each his own.

I agree with to each his own, but you have to admit the NE didn't have enough Ironman races to support the demand up there.  I'm glad to see this one added even if I don't end up participating.

Congrats!!!  As for the speed of sellout, think about the number of folks that can drive to this event from NY, NJ, Conn, etc.   $895 might seem like a lot, but it sure is cheaper than a 5 night minimum at LP

I'm in!

I ended up ponying up for the Foundation spot...  The extra money is worth it to defeat my brother head to head...  ;-)

I'd love to do this race. An epic. If you are a part of it, you ARE a part of history in our sport.

Congrats to all who got in. If I had any confidence in being ready for a full IM in 15 months, I would have been at the computer in Phish summer tour 09 ticket buying mode. I live in Central PA, and have people in the NYC burbs to stay with.

Shooting for IM in 2013. HIM in June 2012, and Aquaman in August 2012.

stevepiv - 2011-06-15 11:50 AM Im in.  woohoo.  Doing an IM and sleeping in my own bed, PRICELESS

It's every bit as awesome as you think it will be!  I slept in my own bed the night before IMFL because I am only 50' from the site.  Totally worth it even though I had no interest in doing IMFL before I moved here.

Do have someone on hand to drive you home though.  By the time I drove home after the race I was pretty sleepy!  I wish I had someone to drive me!

byrdnj - 2011-06-15 4:09 PMIf you got closed out and want in, let me know - I have 15 charity entries.  They're FREE, but you have to raise money for charity.  Let me know if you're up for 2 challenges in one!
Was this an open invitation for anyone or for someone specific?Which charity is it for? I may be interested in raising $ for that..... What is the fundraising limit that you would expect? You can pm me .... Thanks would love to do this race!!!

I'm in, after a few years away from Ironman. The attraction of sleeping in my own bed and having a number of cheering teammates on the last few miles of the run made it worth the slightly higher registration fee.

I recommend staying in Ft. Lee, New Jersey - it's in NJ right across the George Washington Bridge (you'll run across it and into Manhattan to finish).  IMHO, for a race with soooo much bad traffic between start and finish points, it's probably more important that you get to the start of the race on time than get away from the finish fast.  If you can, have a Ft. Lee hotel room on the night before the race (Econolodge in Ft. Lee is super close, but kinda trashy), and a Manhattan hotel room on the night after the race (go right from the finish line by taxi to your hotel.  Have your cheering section transfer your stuff or something?).

Just a thought - there will be some interesting logistics plans for athletes on this one, I'm sure.
