Pre-race routine:

Driving fast and cursing at red lights and people who won't turn right on red. HR up to about 115 from this activity.
Event warmup:

Jogging quickly from car parking space to sign-up table. 45 seconds of stretching before the starting gun.

Comments:

Didn't have fuel belt and was thirsty before I started and stayed thirsty.
I worked on rapid leg turnover and getting HR into the 175-184 range. Pretty successful this time - couldn't make myself go faster in the triathlon the day before yesterday so today was all about finally pulling the speed and higher HR out of me.

I think this was my fastest time on this course. I walked on hills but never for long.
Post race
Warm down:

Looking for my daughter. She didn't come in and didn't come in and I started going backwards on the course looking for her. Darkness was falling and I pictured her lying in a ditch with compound fractures of bones sticking out of her legs. I ran backwards on the course calling her name. No luck.

About a mile in I came across someone running the course from the other direction (also looking for the girls) and the mother of the other girl that was with my daughter and we determined that absolutely no one was on this course so we walked back still calling for them.

Discovered the other girl had twisted her ankle and my daughter walked back with her but took a 'short cut' that took them off course and we just crossed paths somehow. Anyway, she DNF after two miles but I'm glad she was there to be with the other girl and she was in excellent spirits about this race. I took her out for chinese food and she was cheerful in my general direction and that was prize enough for me!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Old age. I'm telling you, I'm not getting any younger!

Sounds like a good race - glad your daughter was ok, and nothing really bad happened.

"Cheerful in my general direction." - Yeah, sounds like a teenager.

Yeah.  I estimate my Max HR around 200.  I get pretty unhappy when it gets over 185 and when it's over 190 I'm thinking exclusively of stopping whatever I'm doing.

This race was run just about where I like to see a race pace: in the low 180's.  I can do it for 3 miles but not 4.  I'm not sandbagging.

My last two triathlons I was disappointed in how low my run HR was, I felt like I had more in me but I just couldn't pull it out for the run.

Nice race...good job of making your goal...keeping your HR up and pushing as much as you could.

Scary Mom moments but it is great your daughter stopped and helped someone else...you should be super proud.

Keep up the good training...you are improving!! Hope to meet you at one of these races one day.

Nice job with the race and you should be so proud of your daughter for thinking of someone else! That is so rare these days with kids.
Take a break!
