Tri Minnesota Triathlon Racing Series
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 27m 16s
Overall Rank = 122/440
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 26/62
Pre-race routine:

Ate banana, racked bike, got marked, did a little run, biked a little, stretched, bs'd.
Event warmup:

They have a separate area to warm up for the swim. I swam for about five mins.
Swim
  • 15m 44s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Lined up about 2/3 away from the buoy. I liked not being too crowded like on the right side. Lots of people running into me. Got smacked in the head, but no serious damage.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to swim faster. The wetsuit was nice. Last year I was without one.
Transition 1
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

Suit was caught on my timing chip. Also, I didn't get the top down while running from the swim. Need to practice this being tired. Still it only added 30 secs. to my transition when I didn't have a wetsuit.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more.
Bike
  • 45m 1s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.99 mile/hr
Comments:

I passed and got passed so maintained my place, just different people. I like that it's short so you can go for it.
What would you do differently?:

More (any) strength training in winter.
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

I put my race number on during T1, so that's out of the way. I actually run with the bike shoes and sit down and change. Almost forgot to take the helmet off.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe stretch my calves on the approach to T2.
Run
  • 22m 58s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Choked on the water. Next time I just through it on my head. Was right on the edge of a charlie horse coming out of t2, so held back the first half.
What would you do differently?:

Stretch calf on bike. Carry my own water in bottle.
Post race
Warm down:

BS's with friends as transition was locked down. Had muscle milk and a banana. Went home and mowed the lawn.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wetsuit removal.

Event comments:

Great race. I was very surprised at how well I did this year.

Nice job! Running 7:40's with cramps is pretty darn good, and the wetsuit only added 30 seconds to T1. I'd say for most people it adds more than that.

I get cramps on the run and I usually just go into the fetal position and cry. It appears yountook a much more noble route. Kudos to you and nice work.

Thanks so much!  I appreciate the encouragement.  Hope to see some of you out on the course!  I'm doing the HOLT long course on Sunday.  I'm thinking that race will be all about hydration...
