Then.... my 2 brothers-in-law (who just did the race too) changed into outfits and cheered for the marathon runners.... (tc10_14.jpg) Attachments ---------------- tc10_14.jpg (52KB - 13 downloads) |

Minneapolis, MN | Subject: RE: TC 10 Mile? I had a fun time. Those hills really kicked my butt. beat my time from last year by 12 minutes so i can't complain. (2010 84 min. 2011 72 min.)
I also logged 10.1 miles. but the best part of the day was coming back (after a trip to mcdonalds) and cheering on marathoners for the rest of the day. Steve and the crew were very entertaining. |

Elite 3687 | Subject: RE: TC 10 Mile? Yes Steve, I clearly missplled awesome . I also had the course at 10.1 miles. But, I'm not sure the course is marked long or if it is just the way our Garmins read going through all the buildings in Minneapolis combined with the turns. I know I saw my Garmin had lost contact a few times. The extra .1 miles was there after the first mile and never became more. I noticed the same thing at the marathon last year. Although, I would love to believe I actually ran 10.1 miles instead, makes the average pace look a little more impressive and I take anything I can get. Nice job everyone! Off season has officially begun. |

Champion 10018 , Minnesota | Subject: RE: TC 10 Mile? Man, I looked for you Steve and didn't see your group. How could I have missed that!?!?!? As I said, apparently TOO focused in that last mile. I was trying hard not to trip myself as I sprinted down the hill. Bryan - if our Garmins lost satellite for any period of time, we would have measured short, not long. I think if we all got 10.1 that says something. This is a USATF certified course, so I am willing to also accept that over 10 miles it's easy to run an extra .1. So, I guess I am not blaming the course but rather just that I personally ran 10.11 so therefore I am taking credit for the better pace Yes, it will not show on the results. Ryan - if you had to dodge and weave that much in the beginning, I highly recommend you put yourself at the front of your corral next time. Let the others dodge you. You need to believe in yourself and your ability to run fast! Regarding corrals = I thought it was wierd. I went to the front of mine (4) and the first third or so took off very fast (sub-9). Then, in the first mile, I passed many walkers and other folks struggling to run already. They were in corral 3, I could see from their numbers. Finally, by the end, I overtook several corral 3 and even some 2 I think. What's up with that? You started 6 minutes ahead of me, with a theoretical better race time, and I didn't even go that fast (I'd say I was properly corralled) and I passed you? Wtf? I could understand cramps, etc, but it seemed like a lot of people started where they didn't belong. I just think it's odd how that happens considering the sign-up process. |

Expert 1544 Alexandria, MN | Subject: RE: TC 10 Mile? Ditto on the "wtf" about the corrals. I have no idea how people got into certain corrals, however I do know that a friend's entire group that signed up as a group were all in the 2nd corral, even though half of them were planning on a 1:40 or longer race. Part of the problem that I have is that I find I'm one of the few that's smart enough to go out at a designated pace and not go too hard. I'll end up getting passed by a million people in the first two miles, then I'll see them all walking later on as I'm on my even or negative splits. Same thing for tri's and swimming. I'll swim the entire mile or so at even splits, and end up having to weave around all the people who went out like maniacs for the first 300 yards. |

Member 291 Hugo, MN | Subject: RE: TC 10 Mile? Ran a 67:14, missed my goal time of 65, but I ran hard and am quite pleased with the results. Just to heap on some more coals, my data had 10.1 as well. I had figured I ran the course poorly by not picking the best lines. |

Veteran 576 Maple Grove | Subject: RE: TC 10 Mile? Steve, I have to be honest...I laugh out loud every single time i look at the picture of the dancing animal heads. It really is quite hilarious. Did you guys dance for most of the marathon, or do more jumping and clapping? I hope that all of the people in a mental coma at that point of the race were able to recognize the pure silliness of the situation...
RE emily, my mistake was that I didn't take care of my poddy business in the Dome when I first got there. I saw longish lines at every bathroom I walked by, so i bailed out thinking the port-a-john lines would be better. I ended up getting to the john about 5 minutes before the race start, and was in the last 50 feet of my corral. Lesson learned... |

We cheered for a bit, but even that was hit-or-miss. The 3 of us had just done the 10 mile, and we were pooped! My injured heel felt fine all race, but it was dancing and moving around afterwards that made it really start to hurt! It's fun to get people to cross over to our side of the road to give us a high-five during their closing moments of their marathon! I even got Sven Sundgaard (Kare 11 Meteorologist) to give me a high-five! Sweet! Oh, and there will be a video. I'll post a link here once I have it all put together.... |

Can't speak for the 10 mile, but I know corral 3 for the full this year was new. They used corral 3 for first time marathoners or people that didn't enter a finishing time (I think). Plus, you probably get a lot of people that don't enter very realistic times when they register. |

Where did you get that? did i miss it at the finish line somewhere? Nope, you didn't miss is anywhere. It's online on the results website. When you go to your specific results, you can download a "finisher certificate." I'd never done that in the past, but I just did that for this blog post. |
