So who's doing the Reston Triathlon on Sunday?  I'm in, it will be my first time at this event.  Not too sure how things will go, I've been a slacker for the last month or so... minimal running and ridding, with even less swimming.  Should be interesting!

I'll be there!  This is my second time doing this race.  Last year was pretty rainy so hopefully they triathlon weather gods are a tiny bit nicer this year.

I will be there as well.  I did the race last year.  Also hoping for dry roads.

I rode the course again on Monday.  Glade Dr, Colts Neck Rd and Soapstone are all in rough shape - same as last year (no new pavement).  Lawyers Rd and South Lakes Dr both have excellent, smooth pavement, however.

Ah so does that encompass the course... I've never done this race and I can't seem to find any actual course maps anywhere.

I know the weather was a nightmare last year, I've got my fingers crossed... looks like the current forcast should keep us dry.

ETA: forget the first comment... I was so blinded that I couldn't see the "click here for map" option in the course description.  What a dummy... man I am so unprepared for this race.Embarassed

First time doing this race---and I too had a difficult time find the maps until just the other day the "click here dummy" button suddenly appeared to me............

So what do you think the odds are of this being a TRI???  As in there actually being a swim?  I was going to post this question last night but didn't and now the Reston area got crushed by A LOT more rain today---I ASSume they test the water, etc---is there any chance it will be "clean" enough to swim in come Sunday?

Good question, we have been getting a boat load of rain, I mean dang it wont' stop!  Since this is a storm water management lake it's tough to tell.... got my fingers crossed though.

They just canceled the swim portion.  The website says they'll be sending an email out later on with more details on the first run portion.  I, for one, and totally bummed.

Aw man, that kinda sucks.  Oh well, I guess I'll enjoy my first duathlon!  Running's my strong sport anyway. Laughing

I asked my coach about this when I thought the North East Tri would become a du; she said to take the first run at an intensity level similar to your antisipated swimming intensity level. For me this would have meant zone 2/3. I hope this helps.

Thanks.  Without knowing any better I was figuring to keep my HR around 160 for the first run where my original 10K plan (when it was a Tri) was to stay in the high 160s for the first half then kick it up to the mid-high 170s for the second half with maybe my final kick maxing out if I think I see that I might be able to take down a couple people in the last .2 or so.

Hmmm seems it truly depends upon your "strengths."  Coming from a swim background (and with a weak run) that means nice easy, cruisey first run which will probably put me BOP instead of that same swim would be FOP....oh well!!
