Subject: How many bikes?

I just wanted to throw this out there.  How many bikes do you need to own?

I've realized that I have a hard time getting rid of bikes(I like to hold on to them).  They have seemed to accumulate over the years.  I have my road bike for Tri's, A hard tail for the trails, A hybrid for my commute to work and an older(80's) road bike on my trainer (thats 4).  I also have my first road bike that I'm now in the process of restoring so my friend has donated another bike for parts (another 2 bikes)  Then there is a mountain bike that I built from the frame up that is just a fun ride.

Grand Total 7 bikes!

I'm in the process of down sizing at my wife's request (did I mention her 3 bikes). Figure I can get down to 4 bikes.

Anyone else out there have a bike infestation or comments?

I wish I had the disposable income for more.... I currently only have two.  My roadie for commuting and my tri bike.  I would like a hybrid for the commute and that would leave the roadie for the trainer.  And I'd also like a road bike that fits me for group rides ... (My frame is too big for me...)

Oh and a P4.

I have 3 - tri bike, roadie (use to be a hybrid..converted) for training & leisure rides, and my full suspension mountain bike for XC racing & riding.  I don't see the need for anymore.

I had two bikes until Jul when someone decided to "adopt" my rusty MT bike. He/she took if from the bike rack at the front entrance of the local library at noon. My road bike has been very sad since then and I'm seriously thinking about bringing a new member to the family, a tri bike.

Two bike - road bike and hardtail MTB.

Bought a nice road bike last year (before starting tri's) and I can't justify another bike until the engine on top of it is much better.

I also have two.
My road bike & my old Canadian tire mountain bike (which I use for short commutes).

As MUCH as I'd LOVE a tri bike...
I know I couldn't properly handle it (I have enough fear being on my road bike still let-alone being all low to the ground & aero-like on the tri bike!)
+ I don't think my storage locker could handle a third bike crammed in there!

but I do wish I could justify it!
Ah well... maybe 5 yrs or so down the road when I give ironman training a serious shot.

I have two.... My TT bike and a Roadie.  Plus my wifes Roadie... and all in 1200 sq. ft.

I have been warned that if I get another bike, I'm moving out.  I'm still trying to figure out how to sneak an aero wheelset in without her noticing.

I have 2 bikes right now.

A Trek 7.3 for leisure and bike ride with the family.

A Trek 2nd District SS for my commute.

Hopefully soon enough I will be able to add a Trek SC 7.2 to the collection.

Cheers!

I've gone through seven bikes in total and still have four of them.

Trek Madone 5.1 _ I love this bike but would give it up if a Cervelo R3 came along at the right price.
Cervelo P2 _ Another great bike. A little long for me but I made it work.
Specialized Rockhopper _ It's for sale. I gave up mountain biking so no need for it.
Peugeot mountain bike _ My first mountain bike. Haven't used it on over ten years.

I'll be doing more and more bike races so I'm a little nervous about my carbon Madone. One crash and that bike could snap in two. So I may end up getting bike number eight which would be an aluminum road bike.

currently we have 6 bikes in the cramped shed out back. Two Trek 7.3 hybrids we do most of our riding on. 4 mountain bikes, our two and the two left by the previous owners of our house! They still haven't come back for them and its been a year and a half. Looking to add at least one more to the stable next year with the purchase of either a tri or road bike!

I'm down to 2. I have a 2009 Giant XTC mountain bike for towing the kids and commuting and a 2012 Cannondale Caad 10 Ultegra for road and duathlons. I sold my argon e112 tri bike and my ridley cross bike as they were too sport specific for me as I like to do group rides as well as duathlons and road races. I never actually got into cross racing but when the kids are all in school full time, I might get another one.

I am down to two, soon to be one.

Got a Mtn bike for going to/from school. Got my Trek 5000 for racing (both triathlons and cycling races).

The Trek might have to sell to pay bills... sometimes I hate being a grad student.

Or is it D-1?

Actually I'm past the D-1 stage, so why haven't I bought a dedicated tri-bike?  Hmm....

I only need one...my road bike.

I have too many bikes.  But I never sell them.

Sekine R200 from 1985   105components were pretty good back then

Nishiki Olympic   1984

Softride Power V   1995

Kestral  200 sci   1995

Giant TCR   1998

Brody  Hardtail  2004

Look 241  2000

Giant Hardtail 2007

Cervelo P2 2009

My garage is a bit of a mess, but I get every bike out a couple of times a year.

I want a new road bike.   Cannondale EVO.  It's light weight will allow me to drink a few more pints.

Cheers.

The rule of thumb for the right amount of bikes to own is X + 1, "X"being the amount of bikes you already have.  I have one of each, a road bike, a tri bike, a hybrid, a mountain bike and a tandem.   So the perfect amount of bikes to own for me is 5 + 1.  I plan on buying a new road bike this spring, a Cervelo R3, so my perfect amount will be 6 + 1.
