Subject: Sunday - LA Fitness - Swim?

So, anyone want to try meeting up for a swim this weekend?  Those of us who are members can also bring guests, so if someone wants to tag along we can probably work it out.

Nice thing about the pool is we can all swim different speeds!

I don't have a particular swimming training plan in mind, so if someone had a workout to do I would do that happily.  Or, I can bring something too.   I can look back at the various things my coach gave me, most of which were interesting.   Time/distance can be added or subtracted on an individual basis if we share the workout. It might be fun to have someone "in charge."

I was going to suggest Sunday afternoon, 2ish?  But I am pretty flexible all weekend if that doesn't work for anyone.  Thoughts?  Sounds like Hopkins is the best choice.

FoggyGoggles - 2011-10-31 3:53 PM Might be able to make that. Only hinder would be the KidZone isn't open on Sunday. Otherwise I'll be seeing you next weekend!

Would it work on a Saturday?  I was going to ask if that's why you said every other weekend.   Well, we will for sure do next weekend and then plan it every other on a regular schedule.

Sounds fun!  I'd be game as a guest and open to workout.  I keep it simple and usually do a warmup, main set, then cooldown.  I don't do any "drills" or use any aids but rather just work on form during warmup and the main set...typical might be something like 4 or 500 warmup, 100 - 500 ladder, and 4 or 500 cooldown.

You can definitely come as my guest.  I will call ahead to verify the details on that, since they seem to change from location to location (annoying!).   Stay tuned for details.

I can bring some more of the "fun" workouts I have, with short fast sets.    Limited/no drills and I try to avoid the kicking stuff entirely.

This sounds like a great idea.  Either day works for me.  Looking forward to trying one of those 'fun' workout sets.

That picture is frightening.

Good call on checking the pool sched!

I'll see you guys poolside at 10.  I'll bring a workout in the 1800 yard range with something "fun" mixed in.

I'd be game as well - but not sure if anyone else is a member to bring me as a guest.

I was going to make a post about the guest policy, but was hoping to hear back from the manager.   He didn't call, but this is what I have learned:

  • If you have a regular membership, bringing a guest is $15/day.
  • I have heard a multitude of different things over time and used to bring as many guests as I wanted to other LAFs, but Hopkins has been more strict.
  • If you add someone as a VIP Guest (by adding name and phone# to your account), they will receive a 10-day guest pass for free.
  • Anne can print a guest pass for the Hopkins club from the web site, for free.  This is what I recommended to Eric.
  • The guest policy is stated nowhere and I never feel satisfied in any answers I get, mostly because they change.  So it might be that you can show up and get lucky.  Or not.

Anne - be warned that the only amenity is soap.  So bring shower stuff, towel, etc.

I picked up 2 guest passes yesterday so let me know if anyone needs one.

I also ran into Brett Lovass (Elite / Pro / Coach) and invited him out for some pointers. He's going to check his schedule and try to make it.

1.   How do the guest passes work? Can you tell me more about that?

2.  Awesome!

I found some workouts that I like and am leaning toward one with some interesting drills.  I wasn't sure if folks had pull buoys, paddles, or kickboards, so we can discuss that for future meetings.

See you guys tomorrow!

Excellent!  Way to wrangle some expert help!  Hopefully he can make it.  Now is the time to work on my form issues.

I forgot that the Marsh 5k is tomorrow and my son and I are running it, so won't make the swim date.  Have fun!

I am sorry you couldn't come, Eric.  We had a great session.  Sorry we didn't see you either, Anne!  Next time I hope.

Regarding next time:  If we wanted to do Saturday, I would have to meet in the afternoon.  I have a 10k that morning.  Otherwise Sunday is wide open.

Great workout today guys.  I'd definitely be up for more of these.

Oh, one of you left an Optum Health water bottle at the pool.  Let me know if it's yours and I can get it to you at the next swim.

So Sorry!  The 5 footers dad went out of town hunting and I didn't know - so I had to get him to hockey and back.  Don't have numbers or would have called someone.  Plan to make the next one.  Glad you all had a good session!
