Total Time = 1h 24m 34s
Overall Rank = 97/318
Age Group = M2529
Age Group Rank = 17/23
Pre-race routine:

Woke at 5:15 and was out the door at 5:40. Got my coffee and bagel and made it to the race site by 6:45. Found a good spot on the end of a rack 1/3 of the way in. Set up with plenty of time.
Swim
  • 14m 23s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

The seas were choppy and in the first leg it was difficult to get a full breath or stroke. It was a little better on the second leg and coming back in was easy swimming with the waves.
Transition 1
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

No problems in T1.
Bike
  • 40m 42s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 19.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a slow leak in my front tire. Stopped midway through the second lap and re-inflated it with my C02, but it continued to lose air. At the end of the bike, the semi-flat tire caused me to slip and fall near the turn into the beach club. Got a little road rash on my left shoulder, elbow, hands and leg. Picked up my bike and ran it to transition. Condsidering stopping and crashing, it was a pretty good ride.
What would you do differently?:

Check my gear better.
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

My hands were a little shaky after the crash, but no problems.
Run
  • 27m 19s
  • 4 miles
  • 06m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt strong on the run. My shoulder and hand stung, but didn't slow me down. Probably could have run faster, since I had a lot of energy left for the last kick.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Found the EMT, who put some iodine on my wounds. Had some food, packed up and went home.

Event comments:

Discovered that cleaning out bits of asphalt from under one's skin sucks, but I think I got it all.
I am a little disappointed with my results compared to the field and am curious what the difference would have been without my bike problems.

Thanks, all. If anyone of you were the guy that fell on top of me, sorry about that.

This was my fourth time at the Hammerfest and will be back next year. I'll check the forums beforehand and try to see you all there.
