Subject: Florida tri's - alligators?
I'm signed up for the WDW tri next year in Orlando. I'm talking to my friend about it when she says to me "Hope u don't get attacked by an alligator.." Now the thought of friggin' alligators consumes my mind.

Please someone tell me that they've done this tri b4 and the water is alligator free

I was wondering the same thing about my 1/2 IM next month.  It's in Miami and instead of an ocean swim it's a lake swim.

I just posted this same question a couple of days ago. Check out the thread about the "Ignorant Question from an Ohioian for Floridians". It's still on the front page here. (I was traumatized! ha)

Don't worry about the lake swims in Florida. All the lake swims I have done have been in lakes that haven't had confirmed alligator sightings in years. I can't speak for all the tris in FL. Gator attacks are rare in general.

Just make sure your not number one or dead last (ha ha).

WDW???  Won't be no alligators in them thar lakes unless you count the crocodile that is after Cap'n Hook.

Sign up already? when is this??

I'd be more worried about the weeds.  The lake I swam in there had a really squishy yucky bottom and had weeds and whatnot in places. yuck.

We swim tris here in the pacific ocean with great white sharks. You don't need to outswim the gator or shark, just the slowest swimmer ;-)
