Pre-race routine:

I got up around 5:15 and headed out of the house by 5:40. I got to the race site around 6:10 or so. Since I missed the online registration, I registered at the race site. No problem. I went to the bike transition area and realized that I had forgotten my helmet! Big mistake. So I went around like a chicken with its head cut off, asking ppl. if they had a spare. Finally, I decided to call my brother up and he agreed to bring me my helmet. It turned out that the guys at ALL3Sports had a couple of extra helmets on hand just in case for people like myself :). Anyway, I am glad that I was able to race! I also ran into two guys that take the spinning class with me at LA Fitness.

Nutrition: I had a bean pan (bread with sweet bean filling) and coffee on the drive up. Then at around 7:00, I had half of Cliffbar. I hydrated myself with diluted powerade. Boy, I had to use the bathroom a couple of times. Next time, I need to skip the coffee.
Event warmup:

Ran around looking for a helmet. Turned out to be a good warm-up. Something good came out of this, at least.
Run
  • 22m 30s
  • 2.4 miles
  • 09m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

I would pace myself faster a little more on the first run.
What would you do differently?:

Train to run well on hills.
Transition 1
  • 00m 5s
Comments:

I had everything laid out on a pink towel so it was easy to find my area. Everything went smoothly.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 13 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

I was soooo cold on the bike. My fingers were about to freeze off. I need to prepare better for colder weather next time. Overall, I did okay on this bike segment. I think I could have pushed a little harder.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder to go faster. Work on hill rides!!!!!! I was really slow(7-13 miles/hr).
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 00m
  • 2.4 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

The second run was harder. My legs felt like lead after the bike. It took a while to get used to running again. I had a hard time on the hills again but it was harder this time.
What would you do differently?:

Train on hills!
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a bagel and apple. Drank H20.

Event comments:

I like this race a lot b/c it's well-organized and not too big. I would do it with friends again next year. I was 29th out of 102 women in the race. That's not bad! Compared to last year, I took off about 7.5 minutes and went from #48(1:37:58) to #29. I did well!

Good job! I raced too and wish I knew you were there. I carpooled (and raced) with Alan ayeong and it was fun! I wish they had timing chips though.

Way to improve your time!

Heard that this was a great race to do and had it on my racing calendar to do with my training partner, but then found out that it conflicted with a wedding I was in.

Hopefully they will only do the wedding once and the race again ...

BTW, my training partner mentioned that it was a hard race to dress for in that it was cold during the run and 1/2 of the ride, but then warmed up as he heated up.

We train right close to you in the John's Creek/Peachtree Parkway area and belong to the John's Creek LA Fitness. Our bike route takes us past The Forum down to where Peachtree Parkway + PIB come together and then back up PIB to State Bridge Road/Pleasant Hill.

If you're up for a group bike ride, let me know ...
