Dang it -- West OTP here. Can I ride/run with the group if you are training closer to my area. I do bike on Silky Sheets and Comet also with my bud, tribesman. Douglas County also opened a new aquatic center -- any tri west of ATL?

Okay, I'm putting November 17th at Pappasito's on my calendar!

BTW - I'll be at the GA game this weekend too - we are also season ticket holders.

Sounds great looking forward to seeing you all there...I have a call into the "banquet manager" there however my cell has died so I won't be able to get her call. We can reserve a banquet room or just meet there casually? Which do you think would be better? I get the impression that we have to pay to get a private room......

Casual...sit outside. We'd have to have a set number RSVP'd to do the room.

Ok I just sent a mass email out to all the athletes that I know of in the North Metro area. Please tell your friends and lets try and get this thing off the ground. Please email me or post on here if you are going to come so we can try and get an accurate head count.

Yep, that's close enough for me! Everything in Atlanta is 20-30 minutes away, isn't it?!

I agree that we can probably just do the casual thing - I wouldn't think a place would be too crowded at 7:30. I vote for sitting outside too - especially if this weird warm weather keeps up!

Guess this is case-in-point of why we need some east-west roads in Atlanta other than the Perimeter ...

Brett:

Think you might be onto something about doing offshoots based upon which corner of Atlanta we live in ... and then perhaps get together to do a group ride or OWS when it gets warmer.

JG2GA, GSULEE, Watergirl, Ant 15, Brilliant Joy and those who are near the Mall of Georgia, Discover Mills, North Point Mall, Johns Creek, Dacula, Lawrenceville, Alpharetta, Cumming areas (did I miss any?) ... would be happy to help organize the first meeting provided that someone else step up and be the person to drive it from thereon out.

Guess the first thing to decide is what the expectations for the group would be. Having never participated with a triathlon club, I am not sure what to expect? Swimming = pool location? Running = which trails, greenways, bike paths? Road ride = are there any safe streets to ride?

Another option is group workouts are too daunting to schedule/fight traffic/etc. is to have one group work out per month that focuses on a single discipline ... and then see if we can locate an expert to coach it. This would bring in the economies of scale in that we would all pitch in + add something to the work-out that we would not normally get by doing it ourselves.

Thoughts?

Sounds great Brian, good luck with that! The only advice that I can give you is to make sure that you have someone or someones to keep the club going. I have found that there is usually a big response to and initial meeting and then people get busy, apathetic, etc. and your numbers really drop off. Having someone that continues to motivate and is very active is critical to a club's success. Get together with your people and find out what they are looking for in a club, some people want a weekly or mulitple weekly workouts while others are happy with the once a month approach. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and you are all welcome to join us for rides/runs etc. at anytime.

Hey Brian-

I like your idea of a once-a-month workout each time for a different discipline and having a coach for the group. I also think, like it was said before, that we all start off strong, then tend to fizzle out. I'll do what I can on my end - I think it would be a great thing to meet and workout with other like-minded people - there is definietly a lot to be learned. Keep me posted....

Brian, Ant,
I'm in. Once a month would be perfect. Let me know when and where, etc. Maybe I could drag my Cumming friend into this tri craziness. I think one of the keys will be to talk it up on the forum. And there should be more interest the closer we get to 2006's tri season.
Brett, what time are y'all going to start tailgating? Anybody else (hblackmon ) want to add a face to a name?

As for the folks in the I-85 corridor, any suggestions for a first gathering ... swimming clinic? group ride? ... as well as a "when".

As mentioned before, I may not be the best person to spearhead this effort as I have signed with TNT and as such am committed to their training program + coaches.

That being said, I am always up for a clinic to work on my many weak spots and Brett has said that he would make his services available to coach a couple. Utilizing the economies of scale, this would be a cost effective manner to get some individualized coaching.

Thoughts?

Where do you guys usually ride. We mostly go to Stone Mtn. Swimming? How many of us belong to the Y? We could always meet at one of the Y locations (or pay and go to a Swim Atlanta). As for when - keep me posted - but Sat. am's are probably best for me......... I'll try to fit in whatever sched you come up with.

My husband and I plan on being there. I met a random guy at the gym today who is a triathlete, but I forgot to mention this to him - hopefully I see him again this week and let him know, too.

As the holidays are looming, thinking we ought to meet up with Brett tomorrow night (Thursday, Nov. 17th) to discuss group training opportunities.

While I think we can plan some work-outs + clinics specific to the Lawrenceville, Peachtree Corners, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Suwanee, Duluth (add overcrowded suburban locale within the I-85 +  GA-400 corridors here: ___________), that in reality will not happen until after the holidays.

The whole goal is to get a bunch of BT'ers together as a group to train.
