Subject: North Atlanta Tri Club

I spoke with the lady who is starting the Peachtree Tri Club the other day and it appears that the majority of the workouts are going to be ITP and geared more toward those folks who live in the city. She mentioned that there were several athletes that live in the North Metro Atlanta area had contacted her regarding membership and that they were in the same boat of not wanting to drive 45 minutes for an hour workout. I would like to start a new club and was wondering if any of you North Atlanta BTers would be interested in starting this club with me. You can respond here or email me and we will try to get a group together for a meeting soon.

Send messages out to your tri friends and let them know.....I figure if we can get a good group together then we can make this thing work.

Brett:

Doing the TNT thing but would also be interested in a north Atlanta OTP tri-club ... but would be concerned that getting to the Woodstock/I-75 corridor might take as long as getting ITP. (I live in the Johns Creek area (corner of where Duluth/Alpharetta/Suwanne come together))

That being said, there are 3-4 triathletes in the immediate area that I know of that would jump at the chance to train with fellow triathletes, especially for OWS + being able to bike w/o some of the "glare" from the roadies.

We don't have to be strictly in the Woodstock/Marietta/Kennesaw area, there is a great greenway from what I have heard in Alpharetta. We could also swim at Lake Lanier (Altoona is just too nasty). These are things we can discuss at the meeting whenever we can get together. All I am doing is trying to gauge intrest right now.

Sounds good ... The other 3 are not BT'ers (and therefore are probably more productive at work ) but count them as interested as we have talked about the need for a north Atlanta tri club off and on over the months.

Specific interests, fwiw, deal with input from fellow triathletes as to swim stroke technique (master's coach in the area is apparently not that triathlon-friendly) as well as the previously mentioned OWS + group ride opportunities.

Sounds good! If you want to help spread the word I would like to get together in the next two weeks or so and get the ball rolling. Make a list of what your "ideal" club would be and we will try to take everyone's suggestions and make it happen.

Great idea but I'm even further away than John's Creek - I'm out by the Mall of Georgia practically in SC! We've got several folks around the immediate area who tri and would probably be interested but distance could be an issue. It's almost like an area club with ITP, 85, 75, PTC, East and West shootoff's would make sense.

Maybe it already exists, but not aware,

Unfortunately that seems to be the major issue with everyone, it makes no sense to drive 30-45 min to train for an hour. If you guys are interested maybe we can do a organizational meeting for everyone and then have chapters based on where you live....this is all just brainstorming. Let me know if you have any better suggestions.

Brett,

I am in Douglasville (West of ATL) and would like to train but probably could not make the trip to the north side more than 1-2x a week. Let me know what you all decide. I am actually 3 miles from the Silk Sheets loop and would love to get a couple of group rides together this winter/spring. I did a 50 mile loop a few weeks ago and it was great.

Thanks,
Tony

Ok how does this sound to everyone, November 17th (a Thursday night) we have a organizational meeting at a central location. I am open to any suggestions as to where and what time. Email me with details and we will come up with a plan.

I'd be up for meeting in Dacula, east side every other week or so if y'all want to start a shootoff over there. That's only about 30 or so minutes from Athens.

Watergirl I am going to be in Athens this weekend for the UGA game if you want to meet up and discuss some things regarding the club. I think what we may have is an east side/west side thing going. Atlanta is just to darn spread out!!!

I was thinking 7:30-8ish so everyone would have a chance to get there. Is Pappasito's central enough though.....some folks are coming from Alpharetta.....

I'm up for trying to get something going around Dacula or thereabouts....

We've got several folks in the area who periodically get together to work out. Everyone has tapered off for the season except for those who are trying to qualify for Boston and working hard on the running right now. I just signed up for my first IM yesterday so will be getting back into the regular Sat/Sun longer rides over the next month or two. Would love to hook up for those anywhere. I've got a looong way to go to be ready.

Maybe we could all pick a Saturday morning to meet at the comet, figure out what if anythign we could all work out and then get a good ride in (before it gets too cold).

If none of this works out, why don't we all just meet in Athens once a week to sit on the deck at Steve's and drink pitchers of beer while we talk about working out...

Go dawgs,

JG

Pappasito's is at the intersection of Windy Hill and I-75 just north of I-285..its on the east side of the interstate right next to Pappadeaux's

If you guys from the east side want to get together and do your own thing that might work out better for you, my whole purpose for initiating this is because I don't want to drive downtown or out I-85 to a group workout when I live in Woodstock. You guys are always welcome and if you want to come to the meeting to hang out and maybe get some ideas then please come. I just wouldn't want to put you all in a position where you feel like you have to come all the way over here to workout.

I am envisioning having swim workouts at either the Cobb Aquatics Center, or Mountain View Aquatics (over off Sandy Plains), bike workouts at the Comet, Silk Sheets, maybe some gaps rides, there is also an Alpharetta ride that is a good one (or so I have heard), and run workouts at  a local HS track, and the Comet, or around the area's where we all live (we could take turns hosting our favorite run routes). This is just off the top of my head and in no way set in stone.

I suggested 75-285 b/c its easy for the N75ers, intowners, and people up 400 & 85 to get there...

7:30ish sounds great to me. Will probably run at the river first then head over there.

Sounds good. Let me know when and where.
You got tickets? We'll be watching it from the couch
I try not to count Athens as Atlanta, but the way Atl is growing, we're about to be absorbed over here.
jg2ga, I'm nowhere near ironman, but I'd be happy to chase y'all until I fall out. And meeting in Athens, talking about workouts, etc. sounds like a plan...
