What's with all the asses?

I beg your pardon, sir! We re not asses! We are swim losers! There's a difference. I knew this would happen. I knew a curious new triathlete would find BT and wonder what all the similar avatars are about. Someone explain it ... I've gotta fly.

My team shamefully lost the December swim challenge. The losers had to choose from several avatars: rat thing with waterwings, a crab, the jackass, or a picture of yourself in a speedo (jeepfleeb's turkey feathers).

I hope to not have the jackass up there for too much longer.

The asses, guinea pigs with water wings, and the occasional speedo avatar are all penance for losing the December swim challenge to Team New England (ok, ok, I guess there were a few other teams that also hit 100%, but they lacked the magnitude of Team New England). Each team's members set a swim yardage goal for December, and the teams with the highest percentage (100%) of goal completion were declared the winnners. The rest of the teams have to have some form of humiliation avatar for the month of January, and also have the poem paying homage to the New Englanders (ok, and those other ones too) in their signature line.
