Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:15 to be at the race about 4am which is rediculous. At least I had throw away clothes to keep me warm, but they weren't enough. Dionne, Aaron, and I piled into Jess' car, she was awesome for not making us take the bus!, and were on our way. We walked around to stay warm and a guy from my running group ended up finding us. Stood around and talked for a while then we found some people huddled by a generator. They were using the exhaust to keep warm. I stalked their spots and when they left decided to kill some brain cells before the race. About 20 min before race start we hit the porta potties then found our way into corral B.
Event warmup:

Stood in corral B for about 5 minutes. Aaron took off all his warm clothes, I only discarded my pants; this proved to be a smart move. There were fireworks at the start and that was pretty cool.

Comments:

The run was pretty uneventful or its being overshadowed by the marathon the next day.
It was very cold and it took us over a mile to make our way through and past the crowds. We ran quite a ways on the grass off the side of the road, and our first mile was slower than the rest. I didn't disgard my sweat shirt until a couple miles in and didn't take off my long sleeve t-shirt until mile 6 or 7 I think. My legs were getting tired about mile 7, and I needed a gel. I told Aaron I wanted to take a longer walk break through water stop 8, but the stop didn't come until 9. I was already starting to feel a little run down, I tried to eat my gel, but my gag reflex took over. I could not eat it, it took everything in my mind not to throw up.
At mile 10.5ish my stomach was giving out on me. Uh oh...trots. Great. I was so pissed, it was so late in the race! We had passed a guy with a Redskins flag eariler in the race, but he caught up to us when I was trying not to get sick. Aarons goal was to beat the Redskins guy so I told him to go catch the guy; that I wanted to stretch. He didn't need to know about the trots. I did a walk/run combo for the last 2 miles, they were pretty slow because I would not stop for the bathroom.
What would you do differently?:

Have a backup plan in case I can't stomach gels. I know this can be an issue for me, so I need to be prepared.
Post race
Warm down:

There was a line and tent for the Goofy Challenge racers. It was really long, so I decided to cut to the front to find Aaron (he was about 10 min in front of me so no need to wait in the back of the line!). Got right to the front, and got my 1/2 bracelet cut off and full put on.
Made my way to the medical tent for some Biofreeze and 2 ice bags for my knees. It was FREEZING cold and it took me about 20 min. to find Jess. Then it took longer to find Aaron, he had been waiting in the back of the long line for me! Ha. Its his fault he didn't utilize his flag so I couldn't see him in the sea of foil. I stopped at the porta potties, put my spaceblanket on the ground right outside and when I was done, someone had stolen it!! Who steals a foil blanket? So cold...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not training, knee problems, my colon.

Event comments:

I was pretty happy with my race. We ran sub 10 splits most of the way and I felt comfortable. I was very concerned because I didn't want to go out too fast since I had run a total of 3 miles in Dec. but Aaron said I looked fine and it seemed like a natural pace for me. This is good, very pleased.

I held it. I figured I could for 2 miles and I did. The rest of the day...nevermind, you don't need to know.

You think that was cold.  Just wait until Saturday.  The forecast is for a low in the morning of 32 with snow showers.  I guarantee you won't need to ice your knee.
