Minneapolis, Minnesota
United States
University of Minnesota
Total Time = 1h 30m
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 40-49
Age Group Rank = 10/11
Pre-race routine:

Breakfast - 4 waffles w/ syrup, vitiamins, naproxen, joint soother, and fsr.
Event warmup:

Spent time streching and then talked with Ktris, Autumn, and Kelly.
Swim
  • 30m
  • 1250 yards
  • 02m 24s / 100 yards
Comments:

I exceeded my goal for the 30 minutes by 250 yds. Now I am having a hard time beleiving this. I swam more than my workout length in 8 minutes less time. I like the looks of it but and not beleiving it!
What would you do differently?:

Started converting to crawl earlier so I didn't have to do any of the back laps I did.
Transition 1
  • 10m
Comments:

We had 10 minutes between each event. I made it to my stationary bike with 30 sec. to go thus losing my chance to adjust the seat
What would you do differently?:

Get my butt moving faster to get to the bike on time!
Bike
  • 30m
  • 7.23 miles
  • 14.46 mile/hr
Comments:

Since I didn't adjust the seat I was pedalling ineffiecently. That said I had my HR up in the 150's and I was sweating like a dog so I got a good workout in. As I started riding I realized I left my towel and my drink bottle in my pack behind the bike. Fortunately a volunteer brought me a bottle of water.
What would you do differently?:

Hustle my but through T1 faster so I could adjust the bike.
Transition 2
  • 10m
Comments:

Just stepped next door and waited - I was ready for this one.
Run
  • 30m
  • 2.33 miles
  • 12m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

I kept a pretty good racewalking pace on this. Of course the treadmill can drive you along a bit so that was helpful. Felt really good - no knee pain at all. HR - the 150's
What would you do differently?:

NOt much - I thought this leg went very well considering my limitations due to the knees.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a little, took a good shower and then hung out in the hospitality area

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My bike performance. Of course a lot of that was in the electronics. Formwise I was happy with my bike just not mileagewise.

Event comments:

For my first tri I really enjoyed it - the fact that I wasn't dead and was able to enjoy an afternoon with the BT crowd was good too. It was very well organized and had lots of volunteers.

Wow, you really can move those feet! That's what's awesome about racewalking, you really can compete with some runners. Congrats on finishing your first!  Sounds like you all had a blast!

(your pre-race routine made me giggle... waffles and naproxen...

NOw that I have the results I can comment. I have my doubts on the swim length. I would have had to have done alot better than I have ever done in practice. But the results are the results. I know I could have done better on the bike. That all said I am EXTREMELY happy that I have completed my first tri. It's no longer a goal but a fact of life. Bring on Minneman!

What an unusual event.  Sounds fun!  I wish we had indoor triathlons around here.

Great job.  Congrats!

Way to go Gerb!

Not sure what to tell you about the swim, but you were probably capable of more than your practices.

I'm not at the point yet where I take Vitamin "I" (Ibuprofen) to prevent the aches and pains of a hard day. Definitely sounds like one of the more interesting breakfasts here in the forum.
