Man, looking at the calendar, this race is two weeks from Sunday. Kinda snuck up on me...

Website has a preliminary list of registrants, 120 so far, 28 women, 92 men. As it sits now, Brandy's got a great chance of medalling (only one other in her AG), but Matt and John have the misfortune of being in the largest AG.

http://www.lafayettefitness.org/opelousas_du/2006_OPDU%202-26.HTM

Also, via my Garmin and MotionBased, here is an elevation profile. I'm guessing the two loops around I-49 start around Mile 2.5 and, say, Mile 9. Seem to be a spike or two in there that doesn't belong, and on a two-loop course I'd expect to see more symmetry, but this will give you an idea.

I wonder how many people register on race day? I'd love to come in 2nd

Why not first? Maybe the other entrant in your AG is thinking the same thing.

I know several people from my tri club haven't registered yet....

With the new age-grouping  thing (where they take how old you will be on 12/31) I will be in the masters group next year!

A master! how do you like 'dem apples....

Great! A new master baiter! Seems like I missed my whole year of being 50 and went straight to 51.

I'd expect registration to nearly double between now and race day.

Man that levee has me spoiled!!

Rode the course yesterday

1. I didn't even make it to the street without falling over

2. Those tiny little bumps tore me up, and I realized that I've never really done even the smallest of hills.

My sis is coming in from out of town this weekend for her baby shower (woohoo!! - I haven't seen her since the storm), but I am going to try my hardest to get out there again next Sunday afternoon to do another round of torture. I'll have to work out some timing issues though, I'll let you guys know when I can go out there when I get an idea.

I know what you're saying about the "tiny little bumps", the surface of the service roads leaves a lot to be desired. The road crossing under I-49 on the north side is just plain crap.

Angel and I rode it again yesterday, this time with the wind out of the south rather than the north, and it certainly made riding the course different. Not necessarily better or worse, certainly different. Decidedly, the best scenario will be a gentle breeze from the east or west so the trees will provide a windbreak.

We'll do the ride again next Sunday at ~3pm, Brandy or anyone who can make it out. Shouldn't be as time consuming now that you know what hospital to go to.

Bear,

where are you getting the updated racer lists from? I looked for a link on the site but couldn't find one.

WooHoo, but I've been forewarned about the Ripples. Maybe she'll win 1st overall and I can have first (and only) in my division !

I wish you guys luck. I'm not going to be able to make this one. But I am going to do the 5k here this weekend, A Run Through History, in Metairie, so if anyone is going to be there, let me know. Good luck to you all.

Don't count on me, but I'm going to see if I can sneak out of my in-law's house to jockstrap.  It's a hour's drive and a weekend's worth of guilt if I go.  What time does it start?

Subject: Weather Forecast

Cloudy, temps in the low-to-mid 60s, winds out of the SSE at 10-14mph with gusts. Better than the 17mph they were predicting earlier.

Will be muggy with 95% to 100% humidity, 40%-50% chance of rain.

See you guys out there, I'm shooting for 6:30 to be able to set up and warm-up.

Great race everybody

Question - there was a guy there taking pics of everyone - do they usually post those pics or are they just for the race people's purposes?
