Blue Bell! Tri!

Too many choices!

Blue Bell seems too far for a 5 or 10k though.

Yeah, speaking of accomodations, I was originally going to camp with friends, but they bailed due to baseball obligations. HMMMM!!! But I registered for the race this week too.

Riding the Devil's Backbone still scares me. But we'll do it.

THIS IS GOING TO BE SO MUCH FUN!

Buckle up, Brandt, we're doing a race with Aaron AND Haley! This makes me feel better about my terrible training experiences yesterday and today. With you three, I can DFL proudly b/c the BT cheering section will be the best ever.

(Notes to self: 1. Just because Aaron eats something doesn't mean it's safe. 2. Bring Freebird's. 3. Consider purchasing large, face-concealing wrap-around sunglasses. 4. Do not give into any sudden urges to moon a camera. 5. Bring Freebird's. 6. Haley is the one with The Stick. Be extra nice to her.)

ANYONE ELSE IN? C'mon people, you know you want to! Just 1, 25, 6. In the bag, right???

I am crapping my pants at the idea that I might do this race.  But with Derek as my #1 jockstrap, how can I go wrong?

Oh Laurie you MUST! It would be so cool to meet you. Yay. Can we share your jockstrap? Is this Derek as in Willy Wonka Derek, or somebody else? In that case I might just need to get him to sign my helmet or something too.

The "Devil's Backbone" is a big hill in the middle of the bike leg. I saw a hills profile somewhere a while ago but can't seem to find it now. The way I remember the chart, it looked something like this: small rollers, medium rollers, more rollers, slow steady ascent slow steady ascent ascent ascent ascent forever-and-ever-amen, screaming downhill downhill downhill downhill, rollers, roller, rollers. And there were also some hills on the run.

But I've never ridden it, so I could have that all wrong. Yeah, I'm terrified. I had just mastered rolling hills on my hybrid when I switched to a road bike a couple of weeks ago -- faster, right? No, suddenly I don't know how to ride a bike. Different geometry, muscles. No power. Weak. Slow.

Everyone promises that with more saddle time, I'll get used to it, and the strength I was building on my hybrid will somehow be relevant again one day. I've got 3 more weekends to figure that out.

SO, are you registered??? I just signed up this week.

Celeste,

Yes, I am trying to talk Laurie and Derek (aka Willy) into coming! Don't scare them.

Laurie, its not that bad and your #1 fan will be there for you! Remember, I have not trained-at all. Really. I'll be walking the run most likely.

Oh, and there will be Freebirds. I have to take you two to Freebirds.

WHOO HOO!! Maybe I should keep the BT sign until after this race?

Celeste,

Don't worry about your bike. It will come to you, it will get better. I hope you got fitted.

Yes, I'll do it.  No, I haven't registered just yet.  I want to take Lil Bit to the LBS to get the derailleur (tough to type that) fixed.  I also have to tell my parents I won't be home for 3 important events on March 22- My birthday, my dad's birthday, and he's retiring that same day.  I don't think they'll mind, but I want to tell them first before I sign on the dotted line.  Read my log for today on my philosophy for this race.  I'm looking forward to it!

And yes, Celeste, Derek can be the jockstrap ho' for everyone!

Monster on cayenne, white chicken, double rice, black beans, cheese, cilantro, BBQ sauce, and a gallon of lime juice.

No wonder I was 180 back in school.

Regular (monster if I want to eat for 2 days) on wheat, white chicken, rice, no beans, cheese, pico de gallo, roasted veggies, HOT sauce, lettuce and extra hot sauce on the side.

And a BIG glass of water.

Where is everyone staying?  I'll be arriving Friday afternoon, and probably checking out Saturday after the race to get back home...two church events Sunday that I can't miss.

I'd like to stay closer to the race so I don't have to drive from Austin in the morning.

I'm so hungry for a burrito right now.

I was looking at some hotels in New Braunfels. Apparently there isn't anything closer to the lake.

The Best Western is $65 a night. The problem is that it's a 35 to 40 minute drive to the lake from there, so I'll probably have to leave the hotel around 5:30 AM.

If anybody has any better ideas please let me know. I'll be arriving friday night too.

See you there!

Big pimpin'!

We were looking at renting a cabin on Canyon Lake.  There's plenty to be had.  Would anyone be interested in chipping in?  The rates are VERY reasonable and the more people in, the better.  Let me know ASAP so we know what size cabin to hunt for.
