Just got back from packet pick up. Some random info:

- My bib number is 93.
- They may delay the start of the race a bit to let it warm up since the overnight low is supposed to be 40.
- From the bike course desciption: After you turn back on to FM 306 from Purgatory, one mile down the road is a steep downhill. If you let yourself go, you may reach speeds of 45 mph or more, so please be careful. (emphasis in original) Woohoo! Of course, we're going to have to pay for that downhill somwhere along the course......
- From the run course "correct, you hill have to run 'the hill' twice."
- Beer at the finish area.

I can't wait.

We "pay for" that hill in advance, Dennis. The 300-foot climb is at, what, mile 5? Then comes the screaming downhill you describe. FUN!!!

I don't want them to delay the race start. No, instead I want four of the other seven 35-39F's to wimp out and stay in between their nice warm covers... for my only shot at a podium finish!!! :D

Hey, a girl can dream.

Zipp 404 front wheel, CH Aero cover on the rear wheel, Rudy Project aero helmet, pretty aggressive position......I'm shooting for at least 45 on that downhill! I just hope the road is smooth and clean!

Dennis, if the road isn't smooth and clean Derek and Laurie will both be there to fix you up! Perfect!

Brandt, I can't believe you like the same burrito as me! Thats rare. You're a wimp though.

Oh Dennis, ask for EXTRA hot sauce. Smother it please.

I had a short ride this morning, and my tri bike fit feels screwed up. I've been doing all of my offseason training on my road bike, and I have only ridden the tri bike once since my FIST fitting, and that one ride was on the trainer. I feel like I am sliding off the front of the elbow pads, and I can't get any power (I'm not a great cyclist in the first place, but I can get more power and speed on the roadie at the same effort level).  I'm hoping that tomorrow will be a different story (think miracle).

Strangely, my right hand is also numb, after only 20 minutes riding today...I am having a hard time typing even. Don't know what the problem is, but I'm hoping one of you bike gurus at the frat house can look at my fit tonight and see if we can figure out what's up. I'm bringing my trainer.

Maybe I should bring the road bike and ride it tomorrow instead of the tri bike until I get more training time on the tri bike?? Decisions, decisions...leaving in a couple hours so I better decide quick.

If you can, bring both bikes and the trainer. We can all get together and noodle on your fit and then you can make your decision.

Why do all the off season on the roadie? I don't think I've ridden my road bike once in the 16 months since I got my tri bike.

So far I have orders from Aaron, Haley, and Brandt. Anybody else that wants me to pick one up, let me know. I'm planning on leaving here about 3:30 or 4. I'll stop for the burritos on the way. Since the drive should only take me about 60-75 minutes, I'm going to stick them in a cooler and try to keep them warm. Dinner should be at about 5:30 or so.

I'm bringing some beer since I owe Haley one.

Any cigar smokers want to join me for a stogie tonight?

I say race on the bike you've trained on. If you take both bikes, you can race on your road bike and then head up to Austin to Jack and Adam's to have your tri bike fitted. Bike fittings aren't permanent. You need to make adjustments based on your fitness, flexibility, etc.....

I always like to do most of my training on the bike I will be using on race day. If it's a road race, I mostly ride the road bike. If it's a tri, tri bike. Or mix it up! That way you keeb both of them happy!

I also vote for racing on the road bike. A different "fit," even if it's right, means using slightly different muscles. Remember the struggle I went through last month to get used to that Lunatic I'm riding now? Apparently certain muscles in my hips had done nothing but atrophy since birth -- they weren't used on my hybrid, but are a necessary part of my stroke on the roadie. As soon as those little muscles learned how to ride a bike, WOW, am I fun now! But those first three weeks were torture, I felt like such a loser and at my lowest point wished I'd never dropped the $$$ on a new bike. Why do that to yourself on race day?

By all means, start training on the tri bike as soon as you get back to the Bad Place!

I agree with you Sal.  However, as you know, there is nowhere down here to get a proper bike fit, so I wasn't able to get fit on my tri bike until January when I went to Houston.  That fit ($150 worth) should still be good, since it was only two months ago.  My guess is that I am just not used to the bike yet since I haven't been riding it.  On that note, my coach has had me training only on the road bike during the offseason (since I hadn't been properly fit on the tri bike), and has now told me to mix in the tri bike once a week on shorter rides, then every other long ride.  I started that this week.

Common sense says I should probably race the road bike tomorrow, and race the tri bike at San Jacinto and CapTex as I prepare for CDA.  But I am bringing both bikes and the trainer today so we can at least take a look at it.  The trip up to Jack and Adams might be a good idea, although they will probably be pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon.

Hey Sal, do you have a plan for how to meet up with the rest of us, since you & the fam are at a different cabin? Are you going to come by the BT cabin to say hello after you get settled? Do you need people's cell phone numbers? I'll go ahead and PM you mind just in case, but may not be the best person to call b/c I'm a late arriva.

Remember, for the kids: the people who finish last are INCREDIBLE endurance athletes b/c we've been out there the LONGEST! Give it up for the BOPers!!!

Jack and Adam's Fits are great.  They do a wonderful job.  I also use a guy named Erik Vitela at Pinnacle Fitness in Austin.  He helped me SO much that I am still amazed each time I get on my bike.  Here's his site if you are in the Austin area.  He's a real pro- http://www.pinnaclefit.com/austin_bike_shop.html
