Hard to read through the tears.

Men's rights activists? National Center for Men? That's just funny. What else do they ***** about, I wonder? How mean their mommies were? (Oh I just know I'm going to catch hell....)

I think in most cases that applies, but this dude, sounds like he got snookered. She'll want the baby cause she thought she couldn't have one and he clearly didn't want kids...

He'll lose but at least it opens up the debate....

Interesting article.  I don't think that I agree with him though.

Well, his situation certainly is crappy, but to save a few guys from cases like that is no justification for the many, many women who would lose any self-determination in the matter.

While I've never heard of the male activitsts before, I'm sure they fight for is custody of the children. You put a mother and father in front of a divorce/family court judge, all things being equal...the mother wins the custody battle hands down.

Seems like you have to be financial supportive but you're not even considered for raising the child unless she is unfit.

Gullah is being far, far too charitable with this guy. A man who turns his back on his own infant child, whatever the circumstances, is beneath contempt. The bottom of my shoe is too good for him.

The courts "normally" make the right call. I know a few single parent Dads and they do a good job. But historically women are much better suited for that role. Men should be better equipped to be providers but we seem to be slackers of late.

If anything, child support laws need to be strengthened, not weakened like this guy wants. The idea that we should leave a young mother without financial support from the father in order to increase "men's rights" is absurd.

This jumps out at me, though:

Feit counters that the suit's reference to abortion rights is apt.

"Roe says a woman can choose to have intimacy and still have control over subsequent consequences," he said. "No one has ever asked a federal court if that means men should have some similar say."

"The problem is this is so politically incorrect," Feit added. "The public is still dealing with the pre-Roe ethic when it comes to men, that if a man fathers a child, he should accept responsibility."

That's such a sad statement, but I worry that it is getting to the heart of the problem; that we are creating a society that does not want to take responsibility for it's actions.

Poor guy. Didn't anyone tell this guy he has the RIGHT to wear a weanie wrap? Problem solved. Of course, he could drain the casing too. That would work. Cheaper, less hassle.

What they never said is that the woman never said if she believed she couldn't have a child or if she was out-and-out lying. If it's the former, this guy's a real wanker. Surprised he'll show his face.

Renee you are old enough to know that there's not enough blood in the male body for both heads to work simultaneously.

He had his chance to vote.  He should have abstained.  Pun intended.

I'll play a little devil's advocate--building on the "we're all equal" culture of the past ~20 years, if a woman can opt out of the responsibilities of children, a man should have the same ability/opportunity.

You beat me to it.  I was going to bring that idea up to spark debate.  Technically speaking, the fetus is half the man's genes yet he gets no say in the abortion (either for or against) yet he is held responsible for the child.

I don't like him being a punk and dodging his responsibility, but I also don't like the argument that the man has various alternatives for contraception.  Such an argument could very easily be used against the woman.  She has countless contraception methods that don't involve abortions as well.

There are four cases possible:
{(both dont want child),
(woman wants child, man doesn't)
(man wants child, woman doesn't)
(both want child)}

The first and the last combination are easy to deal with - adopt or keep the chilid

if the woman wants the child and the man doesn't:
option 1: you could either say "suck it up man, and support your offspring" like we've said for years or...
option 2: you're on your own, like the article is suggesting

Gven equal rights... the roles should reverse for when the man wants the child, and the woman doesn't, you SHOULD either say
option 3: woman, suck it up and take care of your offspring or...
option 4: either screw you man... or you're on your own with the child.

keep in mind that option 1 MUST be in conjunction with option 3... option 2 must be in conjunction with option 4. Otherwise, you're violating human rights.

Right now option 1 is being combined with option 4 (but this option 4 is more like an option 4.1 where the woman decides whether it's aborted, adopted etc. because of birth pains etc), but is still unreciprocated rights. Personally, I think option 1 and 3 should be implemented, but thats my opinion.
