Pre-race routine:

had some granola w/ soy milk, and some coffee. kelly arrived at our place and then we all headed over to the race (we carpooled over, since parking has been tough in the past. since we ended up being there REALLY early, we got a great parking spot!).
Event warmup:

walked around a bit, did some light stretching. had some clif shot blocks (yum!).
Run
  • 27m 1s

Comments:

felt pretty good. my hamstring was fine (hurt it over a month ago now), and my quads were okay (after the 'stab my quads w/ a red hot poker' trainer workout on thursday morning).
What would you do differently?:

not do that workout before a race ever ever again ;)
Post race
Warm down:

did the 1/4 mile kids' race with ella. she wanted to run by herself once she got to the starting line, but i ran a few paces behind her just in case. her arm is still hurting, so i was surprised that she wanted to do it. by the time we got to the turn around point she wanted to hold hands and walk. when we got close to the finish line, she wanted to run again. she had a great time. fiona ran with bill, and ran almost the whole way! i thought for sure bill would end up carrying her, but she also had a great time.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

sore quads.

Event comments:

i like this race. it was my first 5k two years ago. when i did it then, i finished in 36:29. so, i shaved almost 10 minutes off my time!

as usual, it was great to see some of the minnesota bt crew. we went out to lunch afterwards and had the requisite malts. yummy. :)

The fact that you shaved 10 minutes off of your 5k time is an inspiration.....yet again.  Hey, cool....great parking spots rock.

I'm glad you got us hooked into this race.  It was fun - and seemed really short, though my Garmin measured out at 3.26 mi!

Great Pics! I missed going out with you guys! I ended up calling splits for the 8K. I had committed to Charities Challenge and they had several no shows so I picked up the slack.

Things I miss about Minnesota: (besides the no sales tax on clothing):

drinking malts in 30 degree weather!

Sweet time! You are such a speedster -- 10 minutes off your 5k time is AWESOME!
