Pre-race routine:

Got up about 6, took dog for a walk, had a bowl of oatmeal, glass of OJ, mug of tea.

Threw my stuff in the car, and drove 15 minutes to the race start. :)
Event warmup:

Went out for about 5 min warmup run + 1 stride. Took gel and water about 15 min before start. Stretched inside and stayed warm up until the start.
Run
  • 1h 48m 52s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Feet were a little torn up from yesterday's 15k trail run. Some angry blisters on my arches. Taped 'em up this morning the best I could, but they still hurt. I ignored them for the first couple miles, and then the pain faded into the general background pain that my legs were feeling.

I kept a pretty constant pace the first 6 miles, about 8:00 / mile or so. Around 7, I sat back a little, as my feet were starting to hurt again. I ran about 8:30 pace or so until mile 12. There were some gnarly uphills in this section too. I focused on keeping high cadence and economy on the uphills. Kept HR pretty controlled despite the hills.

Ran hard the last mile. Finished the 1.1 is about 8:00 flat. Pretty good kick considering.
What would you do differently?:

Not get blisters the day before.
Post race
Warm down:

Stagger through finishing chute. Get water, and cup of gatorade. Get my finishing ticket. Make it back to the gear check, and got my stuff. Changed, and stretched out for about 10 minutes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Blisters. Running a 15k trail race yesterday.

Event comments:

Well organized and a great race. 28th running of the race today, so they've got it down to a science. :)

Definitely a do-againer.

Not a bad time. Only about 3:30 slower than Gasparilla, and this was not a flat course, I had blisters, and tired legs from running a race yesterday. Gotta be happy with that!

You, my friend, are some sort of animal.

Nice Nice Nice work. Sorry I missed you... You were waaaaaay ahead of me, anyway, so you would have had to do a significant amount of loitering to even see me after the race... and before the race.... well, I was in the porta potty.

Good job. Quite Hilly INDEED! Nice sweatshirt, isn't it???

I don't care, you're still a runnin' machine!  You're one of those guys I keep seeing in the distance...and that's only at the 2 mile mark!!!  Nice race, that's cool when you only have to drive 15 minutes to get there.
