Pre-race routine:

Bowl of cereal and a banana for breakfast. Big debate on the number of layers to go for, eventually plumped for just the one layer. Dawn and Catriona met at our house headed up to Alloa collecting Ellis on the way.
Parked in a driveway near the start that Zoe had arranged earlier in the week.

Event warmup:

Watched some people running around the track prior to the start of the race and discussed the relative merits of performing such rituals.

  • 13.1 miles

Comments:

Lost Zoe and Catriona at the start so ran with Dawn. I was sure we were ahead of them and equally sure that they would catch up with us. Was proved correct at Sauchie (probably about the 4 mile mark) when Z & C caught us. Headed along on mass for most of the way but lost Dawn at about 8 miles due to a stone in her shoe.
Zoe did the usual speed up for the last half mile. I felt pretty good and took off in pursuit but failed to catch her.
What would you do differently?:

Happy with the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Made a token attempt to do some stretches. Had the standard post race indian.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I guess it comes down to a decision at the start about pushing or going for getting round. I definitely went for the just getting round approach. Probably running more than 1 half marathon a year would make a difference to the get round attitude.
The time is just over 3 minutes faster than last year so I've got to be happy with that.

Event comments:

Zoe beat me by 18secs.

Attached some pictures taken by daughter no. 1. These are pretty low res, so you cant see much. This is me Zoe, Catriona and Dawn along with some nutter who was running without a shirt on (temperature was about 6c). This would be about the half way point. Please note the complete abscence of any snow.
