Subject: Marine Corps Marathon Help
Hello ALL,

I'm going to do my first marathon this year and I've decided to do the MCM. I know that sign up is May 17th, and I know that I'm going to sign up. I want to go ahead and get a good hotel near stuff. I don't want to pay out the whaaazoooo, but my wife and I are going to make a vacation out of it.

I've never been to D.C., so can anyone give me a good hotel near the race and within walking distance to all the stuff I'm supposed to go and see. Also any other recommendations, i.e. food, entertainment and sightseeing would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on what I like you may say??? Well, after race...Totty's and food, Beer and food and happening places that serve Beer!

Any other BT'rs going????

I've done MCM for the last five years.  I have always stayed with a friend, but if I ever had to go it on my own I would stay at a hotel on the Metro...there are several at the King Street Station (Yellow Line) or one stop further outbound.  You should be able to get to all the stuff for the marathon from the metro or a short walk from it.

I agree about staying near the metro. We stayed at a Holiday Inn right across the parking lot from a metro stop; we took the metro to the expo, race start; etc, mcu better than trying to drive and park in the city.

You definetly want to stay near a metro, its the only way to get to the Marathon. If you don't want to pay lots of money for a hotel but are willing to stay a little ways away from DC try looking around Springfield, VA. Its about 20 minutes out and there is a Metro and mall near by. You can also try Falls Church, Alexandria, Fairfax, or even Woodbridge, Dale City and Dumfries. Woodbridge, Dale City and Dumfries have some pretty nice hotels for about $60/night maybe cheaper, Days Inn, Sleep Inn places like that. I would recommend those if you get a rent-a-car and you can drive to the Springfield metro from there. Its about a 10-15 minute drive. I used to live in Woodbridge and it's not a bad drive especially early in the morning on race day. Just leave plenty early because it seem the whole city is trying to get on the metro that day. If you have any other questions PM me. Good luck

I know that Crystal City has quite a few hotels going out Rte 1.  It is right near the Pentagon City Mall and, I believe, a Yellow Line stop.

Contact your Congressman now in their WDC office and request tickets to The White House, the FBI tour and make arrangements for a staff guided Capitol tour ... it takes months for them to set this up. I used to work on The Hill and this was a constituent service we were more than happy to provide.

I plan on signing up for the race - it will be my first marathon.

I'm o.K. with paying around 100 to 175 a night. I just didn't want one of those 300 a nighters that you can find there. WHat do I need to do, just look up D.C. hotels and find one close to the MEtro? Do I call and ask if there close to the MEtro? Are there certain hotels that are close to everything (within walking distance)?

Since you're willing to pay I would stick with the hotels that are listed on the the website under hotels/travel. They go quick so I would even book it now if you know you are definetley going to be racing. The hotels on the website work with the MCM and offer rides to and from the race site and to the pasta dinner, and packet pick-up.

I would 2nd the suggestions of Crystal City.  There are several relatively inexpensive hotels within a couple of blocks of the CC Metro Station -  Marriott, Holiday Inn, DoubleTree (mmmmm I love the DT) etc.  There's also some 'spensive ones if ya win the lottery.

I stayed at the Radisson last year for under a $100/night.

You can take the metro to packet p/u, sight-seeing in DC and of course the race start.  Have fun.

Stay in Rosslyn - I stayed at a Courtyard by Mariott a few years ago and can walk to the start/finish. There are decent restaurants in the neighborhood, too.

I just signed up today for the MCM, have not even thought about hotels but I am psyched to be working toward my first full marathon. I am looking forward to meeting some BTers along the way too! Happy training.

There is a Residence Inn and Courtyard Marriott (already mentioned) that are right near the finish...which is definately the most important thing...you want to be by the finish!!!

The Key Bridge Marriott iin Rosslyn, Virginia is near a Metro, not far from the start of the race, and just a walk across the bridge to Georgetown, D.C.,  where you'll find lots of shopping, bars, and restaurants.

I got a room at the Raddisson in Arlington VA, just north of the airport and (I believe) right on the metro line, not too far from the course, for $99 per night.

Here's the link:  Radisson Hotel

Wow, I'm surprised it's still open. Thot it w/b sold out by now. NYC Marathon lottery results are supposed to be posted next wednesday. If I don't get in there I'm hoping there are still a few slots open here. At least I'll know where to stay!
