Subject: Buying goggles

Recently my favorite kid got a pair of goggles that were too big for her so I've been using them and they work ok but not great. I've been at it for a handful of weeks and I'm going to get a new pair. Browsing Dick's and they're all in sealed packages. Is there no way to try them on before purchasing?

Ask the store salesperson.

Often they will let you open the package and try them on.

I remember trying on speedo goggles at Dicks and they were not in sealed packaging.  Were you looking at a certain brand?  I use Speedo Vanquisher's they work great.  Also the Aquasphere Kayennes are great for races/OWS as they give you a larger field of vision.  I know for sure those can be tried on at Dicks.  The case just snaps open etc. which is what I though the Speedo cases were like.

I would never buy a different set of googles than what I am using without trying them on first.  It took me a lot of test fitting to find a brand/style that fit me.

I never had a problem with a salesperson removing them from the packaging for me.

Is there a local swim shop in your area? The one by me has all the goggles available to try on. My favorites are the Aquaspere Kaiman and the TYR Nest Pro.

I was at Academy and they told me just to open the packs and try them on. A sales person then suggested a couple of pairs that she thought would fit my face well and I ended up taking a pair she suggested. I was impressed they actually had someone who knew what they were talking about.

If they won't let you open them, you could always buy them, try them on, and return them.  It's probably a good idea to look into their return policy first.

About a year ago, I went to a local sports shop to get goggles, and when  I asked if I could open the package to try them on, was told 'No'. He did say I could return them if they did not fit. So, I selected a pair, paid for them, opened the package, and tried them on. They did not feel like a good fit, so I turned to the young man and said,  " I need to return these." He went through the process of refunding my money. When I went back to the rack to select another pair, the young man suggested that I might open the pack and try them on to see if they fit ....

nothing like experiencing one of your corporate polocies play out in front of you and realizing it doesn't make sense. although, their thinking is that you are going to open the package either way, and some people won't return the ones that don't fit when they get home. congrats for finding the loop hole and doing it in front of them.

i like TYR Nest Pro...worked great in my HIM swim this year
