Somebody posted a great comment on the FB page of a local Tri team I'm part of. It's just another long training day. I find that a relaxing thought.

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it to dinner tonight.  I'm just not gonna be able to get out of here in time, but I'll see everyone in the morning.  Good luck to all!  It looks like were going to have some great conditions!

Arrgghh! We missed the dinner. Traffic was T.E.R.R.I.B.L.E...we didn't get to Cathedral Camp until 6:48 (which had me sweating bullets), and figured we just flat out missed everyone by the time we got back to town. I'm so sorry I missed everyone.

On the off chance anyone is checking this before the race - I'll be in a red and black "Swim Bike Mom" kit on a Kestrel. Please introduce yourself.

Best of luck to all - weather looks fantastic, course looks lovely....it will be a great day!

The traffic was bad for me as well. We thought many athletes and families would be caught up in the traffic.

I hope to get down to cheer folks on.  I doubt I will be there for swim start. I may find a place on the bike course and cheer folks and considering bringing my bike and ride the run course to encourage & cheer folks.

Good luck everyone!

What a fantastic day....I haven't a clue what my time was (various malfunctions - mostly on the part of the user), so I'm anxiously waiting for the results. It was a little rough on the swim (the current/wind was stronger than what I have been used to), the bike was a blast and the cloud cover came out just in time for the run for me. I had a BLAST! I can hardly walk right now (the transistions from sitting/standing are the hardest) - but it's nothing that won't get better with time.

I hope everyone had a great day.

Glad you had a great day, Jen!!

I ended up DNF. I crashed on the bike at about mile 35 and the front fork of my bike snapped completely off, so I was done. I'm ok, save for a decent size cut on my left shin, and some rather intense swelling. Bike, however, is DOA. Unfixable, and headed to the trash heap.

Up until then I was having a great race -- 39 min swim, pacing on the bike was great, nutrition spot on, felt awesome....it was all happening, until it wasn't.

Holy cow, Mike! So glad you're ok! Did the fork break on impact?

Congrats on a great race, Jen and everyone! What a beautiful day for racing and such a great course.

Sorry to hear about your trashed bike, but glad you're okay! I got hit by a car a month and a half before the race and my bike was trashed as well. Hope you can at least harvest some components like I was able to! I was able to get a bike with race wheels included and use the wheels (and back cassette) from my old bike as training wheels. The breaks are the same as my boyfriends bike so he can use those as backups as well. The frame was cracked and handlebars were bent badly, but most of the rest should still be useable, so you may be able to use more than you think, especially if you get the same kind of bike.

Great/fun race overall for my first half!

Mike....that stinks.

You were trained, were executing well than accident......hard for your first HIM.

Heal up well and guess it is shopping time for a new frame. I think Cervelo has an excellent crash program.

How's the new puppy?

Mike sorry to hear about your bike but I hope you're ok. A guy in front of me lost it doing behind Dunkin Donuts at the start of loop two and it was on sand. The road Rash was nasty but to his credit he kept going.

Overall happy with my results. Not the time I wanted but given the way things unfolded I ran the smartest race I have to date. Given that I have no complaints. Here's my write up.

Wow -- nearly the same spot as where I went down. For me it was the really sharp turn just after DD (by the self storage things?) where you head back to the main road. I hit sand there as well. 2 cops were stationed there when I went down.

I can picture right where you went down. That sucks. Glad you have no serious injuries. That course has a couple of tricky turns that had me worried.

Your 'swim.bike.mom' kit totally caught my eye- I saw you (pass me!) on the bike. Great moves

Mike - I was devastated to hear what happened to you. Casey and I think you are super awesome and he was sad for you as well. I truly do reflect back to the fact that our training is bigger than even the race. You completed that like a champ, and you can be proud of the race you were riding. Great swim time!

My race went well. I can honestly say I probably could have tried harder! I'm totally OK with that though, I really enjoyed most of it, had some ridiculous things happen on the course (racing a mail truck, being attacked by a bee for one mile, meeting and talking to a guy that was not actually signed up for the race but doing it anyway, having a man in see-through shorts run by me with blaring old-timey music coming from his pocket...it goes on and on!). I came close to many B goals and I am nursing a bit of a 'hangover' headache today. Pretty good stuff. So nice to see mightymom (Christina), rudedog (Rudy), Mike D (Mike D), Kathy G and more.

Also, the nerves in my hands are totally screwed from riding for 3.5 hours in the drops of my road bike...my pinkies are numb and my right thumb keeps twitching. The pinky thing has happened before so I know it will all go away.

Great write-up and the hand stand made me laugh. With how rocky the bottom was that must have been an adventure on it's own.

Mike - so sorry to hear about this! I'm glad you are okay, and agree - just try to salvage parts from the bike if you can.

Any thoughts on trying again this summer? I've got dreams of Pumpkinman or the Rev3 in Old Orchard Beach.

I'm doing Pumpkinman. It's nearly sold out so if you're on the fence now is the time.
