Pre-race routine:

GF C1 came by my house at 5am and we caravaned down to Epcot to drop her car at the finish, then mine at the start. Ate cereal w/soy milk, Attain bar, and some water and tea. Left sunglasses by the computer when I went back to get my MP3.
Event warmup:

Helped C1 put on her chip and move her number to the front of her shirt. Her DH had told her to do the back (former cyclist) and this was her first event, she was walking it. Met up with C2 and C3, our other walking friends and stood in the long porta potty line (all women's race) - yelled at some who tried to make a new line and take over the end 2 potties of the 4 our line had range of..not pretty. Walked 30 feet to the start and reminded C1 yet again that she could do it, the 'loser wagon' would NOT be picking her up. Took some photos with Minnie in the background.

Comments:

I felt really good and strong the whole way, good energy balance, and drinking was pretty good. It was very cool to see all the women running along and supportive of each other. I didn't walk one bit - which is awesome for me. AND, I had more in me (saving it for next weekends tri). My working with Coach Mike is really paying off in just a few weeks time. Got to hang out for a half hour cheering people into the finish waiting for the 3 C's to arrive, and they did, and they were happy happy happy. And we took a picture with Minnie and Daisy Duck and it was nice.
*** UPDATE *** we just figured out that Wendi (g8rsax) and I pretty much ran the 2nd half of the race together without knowing it - cool, huh? ***
What would you do differently?:

Not much, except not schedule races back to back so I could feel comfortable pushing a bit more on this one. I was really happy with my performance and had a great time. I would NOT forget my sunglasses however.
Post race
Warm down:

Well, it would have been nice if they had SOMETHING that was cold at the finish. The only way to see an ice cube was if you went to the medical tent. I'm from here, and even I was hot, but those folks who were used to the North must have been dying. Overall it was a great race for a first time, and the medals were HUGE and on a pink ribbon. The awards were crystal vases with pink flowers (didn't get one, just saw them)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

First triathlon next weekend!

Event comments:

As always, Disney had TONS of volunteers and LOTS of course marking and water stops and potties. I think that is mostly to make sure we don't sneak into the park or dirty up the bathrooms for the guests :-) I'd definitely recommend this race, and my friend C1 is talking about signing up for the half marathon in January - of course, she's a Disney Nut so it's a natural, but so happy to share this with some girlfriends - now to find one that will run with me!

Course: First 5-6 miles were on roads around property between Animal Kingdom and Wide World of Sports. Headed into MGM Studios about mile 6 or so, then out around the Boardwalk by Swan and Dolphin and into Epcot in the back entrance by Britain, ran around the World (showcase), met some little princesses heading to the princess breakfast at Norway, and on out past the ball to the finish line. Basically the Disney 10K Classic course with a 5K tacked on the front. We did get to run thru the costuming dept. at MGM which was cool.

Hey Ann,

Congratulations on a great race!  It sounded like you had fun and did well.  Plus, no stopping, way to go.  I've found that a Tasr works well for crowd control in potty lines.  I think this race qualifies you for a few magarita's.  You're going to do great at your tri next weekend.

I'll do the 10K in the fall, but I did the Disney half two years ago and did *not* have a magical experience - I really preferred the OUC half so I'll do that again, and maybe that trail half or Gasparilla. Too much money, too much concrete at Disney, and so many people, and a LOT of boring, seriously cambered road for me...if I loved Disney more it would be a blast, I know....and there is something about that Donald Duck thing that niggles at me....and the fun of wearing a minnie mouse costume, perhaps...hmmm....

How's that for wishy washy? :-)
