Pre-race routine:

Walked around the start area, tried to get my mom excited. It was her and my cousin's first 5K EVER! My cousin was excited, but nervous.

Comments:

My mom held a decent pace the first mile, then she REALLY started struggling. I carried her camera and was taking pictures the entire time, and that was ticking her off a bit too!! ;)

By mile 2, she was growling. We could SEE and HEAR the finish line, but we had an entire golf course loop still to go around. She was ready to swim through the pond to get to the finish line and she can't swim!!

Mile 3, people were stopping and patting her on the back telling her how good she was doing. I thought she was gonna bite someone!! She was snapping at everyone! My meek, lil mama was a bear! I convinced her to run the last lil bit, about .25 to the finish. My cousin had been ahead of us the entire time, and she stopped to wait for us so we could all cross together.

The race was to benefit The American Heart Association, specifically for women. So, I made shirts for us to wear in memory of my grandmother and great-grandmother, who both had heart disease. The course photographer took lots of pictures of us, and did a little interview. Can't wait to see if those turn out!!

What would you do differently?:

Insist my mother "TRAIN" more consistenly!!
Post race
Warm down:

We got our medals, food, tshirts and waited in line for pictures. Then we loaded up and went SHOPPING!! :)

Event comments:

This was the first year for these Minnie Marathon Weekend, all to benefit Heart Disease in women. It was VERY well put on!

Yeah, running in an event with ANYONE for the last little bit when they're hurting will educate you on topics you didn't know even EXISTED in their brains. And you'll certainly end up knowing some stuff you didn't think you wanted / needed to know.

Glad the run was for a good cause; sounds like you had a great time nonetheless. Congrats!!

LOL  I'm glad she didn't step on the garmin or anything.  I know how much she LOVES the Garmin.  Good for her tho.  Maybe she'll have a little more respect for your training now

You're a trooper.  Nice of you to be there for mom.  You got "good daughter" points for this one.
