i curious to see everyones set up's for this comming year and why they chose certain hydration systems or with a certain drive train, wheels.     Becuase you see the bikes in the transition but you next put a face or name to it.  you walk by a bike and say I wonder why they went with the slice or look that person is still ride a soft ride.  I'll post up mine when I get home. but look forward to the responses.

I'm currently on a 2010 Trek 2.3 with aero bars added.  I am planning to move up to a true tri bike in the Spring.  Not sure what I will get yet.  That will depend on what I learn when I go for a fitting.  Probably looking in the $3k range.

I here ya. last year I rode a trek 2.1 with some profile design add-on. but during the off season I drop in for a transition S-works.     I have really seen the prices dropping pretty low. I would get that fit in quick. before it becomes spring becuase they people are going to want the bikes. get then early to get the discount. you can get a pretty nice rig for $3000. but start shopping now. good luck

first season of training and first season to do some sprints( insert NEWBIE) so bought my first bike (used) in order to be able to train and at least move forward when I ride.

I still need to buy the other equipment to go with the bike.. ie shorts.. shoes.. water bottles.. etc..

But.. now ride a Caad5 R2000si... nothing tricked out or fancy adds yet..

I ride a Kuota K-factor.  It has a profile design water bottle between the aero bars.  I didn't change or add anything else other than the seat.  It is an Adamo.

I've only had this bike for a year but I truly love it.  The fit is perfect for me.  I'd love digital shifting and race wheels but that wouldn't make me any faster.  I'm a slowpoke.

yeah i've seen those bike during a few of our group rides int eh spring.  I too use an adamo Road. I went the road becuase it is firm and has some give at the same time. pretty comfy. though i have only been about 42 miles for the longest ride. but I was good no issues.

why did you go with the adamo?

Here is a picture of my race setup back in 2009 at B2B's mount line. Since then I have replaced the cockpit with a Zipp Vuka cockpit (link below to give you an idea about what it looks like). I kept breaking the aerobars on the stock cockpit, so after the second time I decided to replace it with Zipp to match the wheels.

It is a P2, I bough the Ultegra group set to get that color frame, and then upgraded several parts to DA (insert: good use of money, I know). Set up is either 808/1080 wheelset, or 808/900 disc.

Zipp Vuka:

Oh before you ask, no, there is not much left on the bike that is stock.

I ride an Orbea Ora.  It is on the more comfortable side, and that works for me.  I'm pretty practical (cheap), so I generally don't buy bling for the bike.

Here are the details:

FD: Ultegra

RD: Dura Ace

Crank: FSA Carbon Compact- Yeah, I run a compact.  I really like it.

Seat: Adamo

Cockpit: Profile T2 Carbon

Pedals: Speedplay

Shoes: Some really nasty LG tri shoes.

Tires: Gatorskins for training.  Eva Corso for racing.

Wheels: Mavic Elite with powertap and disk cover on the back.  I'll probably run an zipp 808 on the front.

Hydration: Cheap Aluminum cage on down tube for training and racing.  Minoura rear system with two cages for training.

Repair kit: Saddle bag with two tubes, two CO2 cartridges, and one tire lever for training.  I tape one tube and CO2 under the seat for racing.

Thanks Jasonball...  was extremely happy with the first bike considering it was only $400...

My first sprint will be the Ft. Benning Reverse in May, my brother in law will be coming down from War College to do it with me.

Yeah, I am pretty sure it was from pulling up. I ride a lot of hills and love to hammer them, so I am sure that is what it was. That being said, the A3S mech's said they had never seen that happend before.......let alone twice. They are a great shop, so they warranted both pairs even after I replaced with the Vuka (so I have a brand new set up at the house from the MFG).

Doug - it is all about the bling for the bike. It does not matter if you ride fast, as long as you look fast. Well, that is what I keep telling myself.

I've got a Transition Sworks. that was built by LBS owner for him to use at augusta last year. but he broke his arm. so I picked i up with 0 miles on it.  litterally the first one to own this actual frame.

full ultegra set up

bontrage race lite wheels

Profile Provset bars and t2 cobra car aero.

Weaponry center return shifters.

the the sore thumb of a look adamo road saddle.

Looks like I'm in the running for the cheapest here. I have a Cannondale R1000. I figure if I am only competing against myself and am not in the running to win anything, why spend the money?I have added cheap ProfileDesign aero bars but other than that it is a stock setup. I will likely make some mods though if I end up registering for SavageMan this year. Those climbs scare the hooh-hah out of me.

Wow... pretty bike... Pretty in a cool, mean looking, fast kinda way.

Not on Benning, up in Woodstock, but my B'in law is Army and decided to do this one and have him come down to do it.  He hasn't been stationed at Benning in a while, but was at one time.

Will check out the links, because i want to fill out the schedule for year... that is unless  I cash in!  ha.

foxms1

Someone in my mentor group said it very well.  Its not the bike, its the engine!

It has wheels and moves ya forward, regardless of age, brand etc.

Besides, thats a nice bike, and i am pretty sure they stopped making mine before they stopped making yours!!! Ha.

To quote the old sage:  "It's not about the bike."

Mike, Savageman looks like a fun race!  Are you going up "The Wall" or around?

I have a Quintana Roo Dulce (black with pink words, pink bar tape and pink Adamo seat) which replaced the gray Lucero that I cracked.  It has a compact crank and 105 deraileurs (I think).  No idea on any of the other components.  They work and that is what matters.  The 105 on my yellow bike does not work reliably, so that is why I mention it.

After the numerous wrecks last summer that left me with a bunch of nice scrapes on the tape and seat, cockeyed bars and broken/missing rear hydration system, I may need to look for something a bit less delicate.  Given the price factor, I'm thinking I'll be running the minoura behind-the-seat setup with aluminum cages again soon.  In front, I have a custom-made (ha!) electrical tape/pvc pipe/rubber-band aero-drink support system because the aero-drink and my bars are not buddies.

105 front Ultegra back.

Look in the garage.  I took the hydrotail off for Wisconsin and haven't put it back on.

Thanks for the words. I remembered chuckling as I read LA's book thinking as I read "seems like it is ALL about the bike!". Maybe not THE bike but A bike.

Anyway, it has wheels and allows me to compete so works for now

Mrs BrownDog - my plan is to go up the wall. If I'm going all the way there, I'm going all out. Just not convinced yet I can make it up the wall. Lots of training to go yet

why did you go with the adamo?

I started doing a lot of centuries last year and the comfort of the saddle became very important.  Not everyone likes Adamo but it works for me.
