Subject: Who went with you when you got your IM tat?

I'm FINALLY biting the bullet and going to get it done...YEAH!

My hubby is going. We can't decide if the kids (9&10) should go too. I think it would be 'cool'-after all, they were there for the training (literally sometimes) and for the race. They know I'm getting one-so that's no secret. We also think it may be a bit 'trashy' to take the kids along.

Comments?

Personally while I don't think its trashy, I don't think kids belong in a tat shop. They get bored, they get antsy. Many shops will not allow kids. Or anyone under 18 for that matter. Mine doesnt and they are very strict on it.

Those that do allow kids generally make them stay in the lobby not only so they dont accidentally grab something thats sterile or sharp but also for the other folks getting inked.

Depending on how extensive or where you are getting tattooed, you may not feel so hot. I've plenty of time been nauseated or simply grunting through a rough spot. Plus if the work is more involved and alot of color used it can get fairly bloody. Kids may not think this is so fun to be around.

Leave em at home-they'll have more fun.

Not sure about where you are, but in Georgia I believe it is illegal for anyone under 18 to step foot in a tattoo shop.  I know the shops that I have been in have been very strict about it.

Most places deny <18 years old entry into the shop.

I went alone. Yeahhhh with nobody else.
Y'know when I went alone, I preferred to be by myself...

Most tattooist and tattoo shops really do not allow having children present.  It's truly frustrating distraction and the little darlings are unable to stay seated and quiet.  If you want a tattoo done nicely, don't bring the kids.  It's a policy in my shop.  NO CHILDREN.

I brought along my son (13) at the time, he brought the camera to take pictures throughout.

Ended up doing it while kids were in school and when they got home they couldn't wait to see it. I was just hoping that my 10 year old wasn't telling anyone, as I am the regular substitute in her classroom! Husband came, he may be just as bad as a kid! LOL! Here it is--very pleased with it. The shop DID allow kids, by the way!

I went with my brother, who finished the race 15 minutes or so in front of me.  After I crossed the line and did the post-race prerequisites, we headed off to a prearranged tat place to get them done.  I wanted it inked where I raced so waiting was out of the question, as we were leaving first thing in the morning.  We actually got them done and got back to the race site in time to cheer on the deadline finishers.  Good times.

My wife and mother-in-law came (she was interested int he process) and everything went smooth.  One regret was not talking it out with my wife before hand.  Not that she was against it (she loves it now) but there was a misunderstanding about what I wanted, and what she thought I wanted.  She started to argue with the artist when she and I (the artist) changed a couple of small details.  My wife thought I was being led astray from what I wanted and was only looking out for me.  After I told her that I thought it came out perfectly and couldn't have been happier and it was over.  It wouldn't have been good to have a cat fight while the artist had the gun in her hand!

I went alone, right after work. I did the work alone, figured I would endure the pain of the tat alone.
