Any idea at what level they capped the registration?

I couldn't find it on the website.

It will probably be a better race with less people.

race cap 45,000 same as last year.  They were at 30,000 registered as of last Friday AM.  Last year 31 days to sell out.

For a morbidly obese country-

there sure are a growing number of people rockin' (or walkin') 26.2.

It's not as "glamorous" as a big city marathon, but in Wichita KS we have a super fast/flat course that is a BQers dream come true. And it's only $65.

October 14th this year.

I recommend Fargo, ND.  Not a "glitzy" marathon but good and flat.  I got my first BQ there.

The Oz marathon (used to be called Olathe marathon) in Olathe, KS is also flat and pretty fast.  Last year the weather was bad because it was very windy.

Twin Cities is good but I found the hill at mile ~21 to not be very fun.

The St. Louis marathon isn't bad either.

*****EDIT**** I just realized you were looking for a fall marathon and not a spring marathon and these are all spring ones...my bad.

Hope this helps!

KC is a good race but I wouldn't call it particularly fast.  Des Moines does a decent race and all but the first few miles are flat.  It's my current PR and was a BQ.

Twin Cities is the same weekend (first Sunday in October). It claims to be "the most beautiful urban marathon in the world" or something to that effect, and it is very nice. Except, as noted above for the hill on Summit avenue at mile 21 AKA "the wall."

Detroit! Not many other marathons take you through two countries. Nice and flat, and cool weather. (You do need your passport, though!)

Come on down to DC for the Marine Corp.

Meanwhile, I'm coming home to run my home-town Chicago Marathon. I'm pumped! Barely registered Sunday night!

Wasn't Chicago one of the screwed up races last year that ran out of water and actually got stopped?

Why would you want to sign up for that?!?

It seems like it fills up so fast anymore...not trying to sound like a conspiracy theorist here, its just that there such an emphasis on running for chairities (dont get me wrong- I ran under Team Casa before) and pumping up the dollars to get in. Does anyone really know if the overall numbers are filled by other factors? just saying that if you look at all the "recovery tent" sales, and all the extra costs that come along with running for a team, theres real motivation to get those general open spots filled quick.

have fun at Chi-town...its a great race!Cool

That was like 3 years ago.
They learned a lesson, Google for race directors interviews in the days/weeks after the event.

Apparently 40,000 people in less than 6 days want to sign up, that's who.

I ran that year when they apparently did run out of water (2007). It was unusually warm that year & a lot of people were dousing themselves w/water in addition to drinking it. I think that that's what was unexpected. It was crazy, I remember hearing ambulence sirens throughout the city. Anyway, that could have happened in any race/city.
