Pre-race routine:

Had to get up early to pack the car for the SO, so had some oatmeal and a bagel with egg, then spent the rest of the morning chilling. Had a short nap.
Event warmup:

Biked over to the lake, about 2 miles. Set up transition, then went for a short run. Got into wetsuit and into water with about 10 minutes to go. Got used to water temp (COLD!), then swam a few meters. Spent rest of time putting face in water and breathing.
Swim
  • 04m 20s
  • 250 meters
  • 01m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

So I swim to the right! Started out about 10m from the rope, and kept getting closer, and closer... Was breathing to the right, suspect I was crossing my left arm across the midline. Got bumped a few times, nothing too bad, kicked once.
I was very pleased with my swim. I kept my form and my breathing. At one point started to get out of breath, slowed my stroke down, corrected. Breast stroked only long enough to get bearings. Need to work on sighting while freestyle, but that's ok. My goal for the swim was accomplished. Happy!
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on sighting and swimming straight! Other than that, nothing.
Transition 1
  • 03m 19s
Comments:

Cap goggles off, wettie off, jacket on, socks and shoes on, helmet on, go. No problems. Legs didn't want to work at first, but got them going.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 44m 22s
  • 20.5 kms
  • 27.72 km/hr
Comments:

Took 11 minutes off my UBC time! Was racing harder today, and fewer inclines, but very happy. Entire time in large chainring; most of time in drops. I wasn't weaving like I did at UBC either. Helmet buckle came undone just before turnaround. Had to stop and fix, took about a minute.
Pleased with my average pace, have been worried about making the time cutoff for HIM, but should be fine. I think because I have been either on the trainer or in areas with lots of stop lights, haven't been able to get avg speed up.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

No issues. Feet are pretty numb...
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 27m 50s
  • 4.94 kms
  • 05m 38s  min/km
Comments:

Shins were screaming the whole way! Thought I might have to walk some, but didn't. Was again super happy. Feet were some numb for first bit. So pleased with pace.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched out well, then biked back to trial site and stretched again.

Event comments:

Wished they would have had some volunteers keeping the last bit of the run course clear. There were often people walking or crossing when folks were coming in from their run. Didn't affect me, but might have been frustrating for some. The volunteers that were there were great though!
