Got my new ride last week, only had a chance to ride it a couple times, 60 miles yesterday, but love it.  They hydration system leaves a lot to be desired, but works ok.

Who else has got a Shiv this year, come on, lets see it!

What are the issues with the Hydration system?

I love the idea of it, but not sure how the implementation was handled.

The system is a removable and collapsible bladder similar to a camlebak, but the material is not as thick. You would clean it the same way. It is located under a hatch in the area behind where a traditional headtube would be located. Its  easy to access.

The straw can be trimmed to your desired length and is elegantly held to the aerobars by a small magnet. You just grab it when you want to drink.

I've been shiv'd too. I love it.

So far the hydration system and I are getting along just fine although I did already trim the straw too short, oops. And I personally need a stronger magnet.

I took off the Specialized bite valve and threw it as hard as i could into the neighbors yard.  (then told the kids go throw it away :0)  I replaced it with one off a Camelback.  Works a lot better.

The biggest issue with it is Im not sure how in the world you can refill it on the fly like they advertise.  The base of the opening is fit tight with the cap and it almost takes two hands to open it.  I took the magnets off that came with it, and replaced it with rare earth magnets.  I can almost spit the tube out and it will hook its self up.

It does keep water colder longer than you might think, but then again, it has not been super hot yet.

Nice Bike - now, not be an a$$, but can you explain why your bars are higher than your saddle?

Well there are several reason for this.  Being a larger rider, 227 lbs, the folks at Specialized recommended that I go with a large frame.  Now at 5'10", I am toward the bottom of the range for this size frame, but the Shiv has incredible adjustability.  After loosing 250 lbs, I still carry a lot of weight and loose skin in my front torso area.  Yes, we started off the fit, with the bars slammed to the tube like everyone wants, but it your knees hit your gut, that's not good.  Also it was do to lung, rib cage flexibility.  When we had the bars lower, it constricted my ability to take in full lung capacity.  I assume it might have something to do with being new to this position, maybe my body type or what ever.  It does not do anyone any good to slam the bars, be more aero, if you can not exchange oxygen to fuel your body.  I find it humorous to see all the post where people don't get proper fits and they have the bike slammed.  I wonder if they take everything into account when setting it up for themselves.  A Lamborghini is fast, but with a clogged air filter, its no faster than a Prius. I hope my flexibility improves, and then I can move the bars down more to get more aero, but for now this is what I deal with.  And last, my height vs leg length vs frame size makes the seat lower to get the right leg angle.

Im sure this will start a slew of responses, for and against my excuses, but thats my excuses, and Im sticking with it!

I don't look at those as excuses, but rather as reasons - which is what I was asking about.  Everyone has reasons for why their bike is setup the way it is, I just like to know what some of them are from time to time.

Curious, how did you measure or determine that you weren't getting anough air in a lower position?

By the way, congrats on the weight loss.  That's a hell of an achievement.

Gofaster:  We done by spinning all out for 3 minutes, then watching heart rate and by my overall perception.

These magnets, I got from Grainger, but I think you can find rare earth magnets at about any hobby store.
