Pre-race routine:

Beer and BBQ last night. Diet Mountain Dew and half a pack of cheese crackers this morning.
Event warmup:

Picked up my packet, ran it back to the car, then jogged back to the starting area.

Comments:

I usually get pretty psyched up for a race, but for some reason I just couldn't seem to get motivated for this one. Went back and forth in my head all the way up until the starting gun whether to push hard and walk if I had to or to take it easy, treat it as a training run and enjoy the morning. I should have known I have no ability to do the latter.

PR by 1:15. Still haven't broken 30 minutes, but it's coming.
What would you do differently?:

More BBQ and beer the night before.
Post race
Warm down:

First booth I saw was Hooters, but they were giving out turkey cold cut sandwiches. WTF?!? Where's the beer and wings? Tried some kind of coconut water health drink - holy hell! I had to follow it with 2 sin-free margarita shots to get that taste out of my mouth.

Could've used some water after the race. It was probably there somewhere, I just never found it. They did have all kinds of other drink options; the best by far being the margarita shots.

Event comments:

The race is very well run, but the ancillary details need work. I have yet to get a shirt in my size in this race series no matter how early I register or show up on race day. The door prize/poker hand thing could use some tightening up as well. Two pair beats a pair of aces - just saying.

Edit to add: I sent an email to the race director regarding the shirts and he replied immediately that he would have another shirt made and send it to me. I could not be happier with this series at this point. Looking forward to the next race in July.

Congrats on the PR! Under 30 here you come! Btw, totally jealous on the post race fair. All my races seem to provide water and bananas. Boo.

Another PR, well done.

I think you need to come prepared for serious discomfort sometimes if you really want to smash your 5k time. Most of the time I'm not really in that mood!

Under 30mins next time??? Definately on the cards now but it might hurt!
