Unreal to witness that.  What an example he is living for his son.

You said you shot video of it? You should post it!

There isn't too much to see with the video, but it's cool to hear the kid yelling for his dad. I'll see if I can figure out that YouTube thing and post the video. I'll report back once that's done.

Ok, hopefully this link to the video will work. You can hear the boy if you listen carefully. After the video follows the runner, watch the right side of the screen and you'll see the boy run up onto the bleachers with his camera to get the moment his dad crosses the line.

Chills.  Straight up chills man.  Having been at the finish of LP last year there is nothing like it.

Thank you for sticking around and capturing the true spirit of what athletics are suppose to be.  That's a moment that the father and son will NEVER forget.

That was great. By the way, he ran about 20 yards past the where the finish line was but f' it, he made it. And that was one hell of a day. He may not be an official Ironman finisher, and that's ok rules are rules, but he's got a lot of heart, and that means more.

Thanks so much for this, and the video. Seeing that little ball-capped person, barely able to see over the chute wall, truly brought tears to my eyes. I'm one of those last-to-finish guys, with two young children, and since my first trail 5k, my kids have been there for me at each new distance finish. They are the family videos I will treasure for years.

What I really love is how he waves at him, I see it as the same way he would wave at one of his heroes going by. And his Dad is his hero.

Magic indeed...that just made my whole week.

I'll never forget the morning after finishing my first and only IM...my 11 year old daughter came and sat on the foot of my bed...and then she said "Dad, last night I couldn't fall asleep because I just kept thinking over and over "l can't believe what my Dad just did".

When I'm an old man looking back at my life, I'm pretty sure that moment will be in the top 5 I remember...

I'm guessing he doesn't care about the "rules" for finishing an IM.  He did what a lot of us (me included) and probably most any of his friends have never done, 140.6.  So what if it took him 15 extra minutes, all that matters is he made his son proud!  Congrats to him!  And now his son has a story to tell all his friends.

That also makes me think that he may as well have run over the line with him, since that would not be a DQ after midnight.

I totally agree.  I understand there are rules, but he is an Ironman in his sons mind and my mind.  His son will probably remember that moment for the rest of his life.  I love training and racing, but my family is far more important than the sport.  Congrats Sir, you are the essence of the sport!

First of all awesome!  Congratz to that guy for crossing the finish line, even if it was after the 17 hours.

I agree with this as well, although he may not officially be an Ironman, I think he taught his son a valuable lesson; to never give up/finish what you started.

To see that little boy in the cap made me do the mom-hand-to-the-heart-and-say-"ohhhh!" thing.  What a sweetheart and what a special moment.  Loved it.

Another reason sports are more than just "games"/"recreation"...  They provide the backdrop for some of the most emotional moments ever.  Thanks for sharing...

As an IMAZ "catcher" a couple years ago, I saw my share of tears, a wedding proposal, proud spectators, crying family.  If you volunteer, I highlly recommend that job.  I was the last shift, so the stories even seemed better.

I better "man up"...  I'm at the office, and they may not understand why I'm Verclempt.

And now I must go and chop down 2 trees, not to make me feel "manly", but  to make tissues to mop up my tears.  Priceless, truly priceless, and a moment that I'm sure the whole family (especially the son and his Dad) will remember, and all the people who were there (including you).  I think I need to go and chop down a 3rd tree now, dammit Cry
