what does alleged doping 3-10 years ago have to do with Triathlon in 2012??

Why would he banned from competing in this sport?

Does this prevent him from competing in IM France?  Not sure how the "US" anti doping agency works.

If he can't race in France, then it's pretty much a done deal for Lance in Kona.  Not that I think this would get resolved by October anyway.

Lance's response:

Seems to misdirect some of the issues...interesting.

Most likely because he is racing as a professional, and if the USAT/WTC uses the USADA to regulate their pro triathletes, then I can imagine he would still face penalties.

If he was doing tris as an AGer, it probably wouldn't matter.

so test him now, and if he does not show positive, then i can't see how it has any bearing on his current occupation as a professional triathlete.  He still has to swim and run.

honestly, i am sooooo tired or hearing about all this PED crap, seems to me they go on witch hunts, maybe they should focus in important stuff instead of sports figures.  You know like curing cancer or the obesity problem in this country or something.  But what do i know, i am a fat balding ag'er.

Michael Weiss, winner of the 2011 Xterra world championship was ultimately suspended for 2 years GOING FORWARD for an allegation...with one witness who did not show up to testify, for something that happened years and years ago...AND he'd already been cleared by one, maybe two previous anti-doping boards, one being his own country. Anything goes, really.

This p's me off so much. They have wasted so much time and money (not just USADA, but many, many groups) on trying to nail a cheater badge on Armstrong. Here he is competing in triathlons - still getting tested rigorously, and they're going to hit him with this? What a waste. I feel sorry for Livestrong and WTC, which were benefiting so much from his triathlon competition.

They would never do any of that...because it would make too much sense.

What you need to do is make friends with some folks in the USADA and then just accuse everyone who beats you in your next tri!  That way no matter how slow you are you can always claim to be the fastest non-doper.  Unless someone slower than you has the same idea... That could be a problem.

USADA came up with this gem in that article: “the witnesses to the conduct described in this letter include more than ten (10) cyclists .?.?.”. More than 10!!! You usually identify the number up to a significant number. These jerks waited until 11 days before Nice to drop this on him? Seriously?

I don't know where this goes, but if he can't race in Nice or Kona and these charges are unsubstantiated at a later date, he should be allowed to personally drive a dozer through the USADA offices. This is just plain spiteful by them.

My guess is that the WTC allows him to compete while the appeal is ongoing. Any experts out there who think different?

And what happened to them needing evidence? Hearsay is not evidence. USADA is worse than the Center for Biological Diversity about suing for publicity and not for cause.

Guilty or not, it's ridiculous that they can block someone from competition before a decision has been rendered.

I have no opinion on his guilt or innocence.....but a "witness to conduct" is NOT hearsay.  Also, WTC would be obligated to uphold the suspension under current agreements with WADA.

The words "quasi-government agency" are distrubing.  Sounds like something you'd see in Cuba or Venezuela.

Also, LA is right.  I cant say I am a fan of his, but this is simply a witchunt to catch the biggest name the quasi agency can grab.  Barry Bonds got off, Roger Clemens may get off and even though USADA was not involved in those cases, they are all interelated.  USADA will put him through the wringer until there is no proof of anything to pin on him and move on.  Unfortunelty for Armstrong, it will be a few years and many lawyer bills until that happens.

Maybe he can enter as an Age Grouper!

The problem with the USADA (and WADA) is that they're not really government agencies.  They're both for profit organizations and will do what is in the best interest of the organization.

He doped and we all know it. I have zero problems with that, and consider him an outstanding athlete nonetheless. Regardless, consequences would be over and done with by now had he owned it when this all surfaced. Take your medicine and move on.

It is no coincidence that we are only 1 week and a half from IM France.  Could he still compete at an age grouper (not as a pro)?  That would be awesome if he won as a pro and punched his ticket to Kona.  Probably couldn't compete at Kona as a pro though, huh?  I think this will pass...

It's gone huge. Here is another link from MSNBC that mentions a possible sanction from triathlons specifically:
