Pre-race routine:

Got up early (6:00 am) and drove to Berryessa with my BF. Had a ClifBar and a banana on the way. We also stopped and got some coffee and pastry (him) and fruit juice (me) - I had a bite of his pastry, it was sinfully good. It's a good 2.5 hours up there, but a nice drive. Parked took all our stuff over to where everyone was set up, and got our area set up. Then started looking around for my sister who was supposed to meet us up there. Eventually, she showed up (she'd started off late.) We got up there about 8:45 and the swim started at 11:30, so we had a lot of time to kill. It was really HOT this year, clear and sunny skies all morning. The lake is so great to swim in. Nice clear water, and it's a beautiful venue, out in the hills of Napa. Just a really, really pretty swim.
Event warmup:

Getting in the water felt really, really cold at first. A lot of gasping, etc. Swam about 100-150 yards, and got out. Temp was about 70, perfect. It was just that we were really overheated from sitting in the hot sun.

Comments:

Just wish I was faster this year. I felt like I was swimming fast, but I guess not. Water was warmer than in prior years, in the low 70's, and it felt really nice.

Okay, I was 5 minutes faster than the LAST two years, so I just need to get in the pool more over the winter. I really, really, want to beat my best time on this swim, of 37 and change.

Note on place: They place this like a bike race. If you come out within one minute of each other you all place the same. So there were more than 239 swimmers, but my time was 204 out of 239 minute times.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more I guess. Swim faster?
Post race
Warm down:

Ate lunch that my sister brought, and spent the rest of the day wandering around Napa and shopping. My sister left, and my BF took me out to dinner so that was really nice and a good ending to the day.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough swimming? I don't really know. I prepared for this race and was feeling really good in the pool.

That's moving along! If you lopped 5 minutes off of last year's time, that's a substantial improvement. It sounds like a nice venue as well, and I like the start time. Why can't they start triathlons at noon?!

Great job. A 5 minute improvement sounds pretty good to me! Keep up the good work and you'll continue to improve.
