For me, it's all about making sure I get the colon rollin', one less concern during the race.  I chug Starbucks doubleshots, seems to get things going within 20 mins of getting out of bed.  Also, all that caffeine helps getting me ambitious at 4:30 am.  Is there anything you invariably do race morning?

Wake up. Have a mental battle with myself to eat something even though I'm not hungry. Check over my bike 500000000 times. And then again. Go to transition. Set up transition. Look at it for about 20 minutes until I decide that it's set up how I want it.

Poop a lot. Really. I don't know how my insides know it is race day. Doesn't matter if I "racing" or just dinking around having fun. Race morning seems to make my insides eager.

Whatever I am doing I am listening to Thunderstruck, live version, by AC/DC on repeat... could be for 10 minutes could be for an hour. All I know that crowd noise is insane and gets me going.

In the whole two tris and one du I've done so far, nothing has really been consistent other than waking up early, eating a light breakfast, getting there, and setting up transition while 'willing' out as much as I can from my intestines.

For this sunday at tremblant I've taken a much more organized approach so we'll see how that goes...

I think race morning #2's are the fourth sport of Triathlon. That is the most important thing for me on race morning.

As soon as I saw the thread title one word came to mind: dump

And get up early so I can process coffee. Seems like bodily functions are a priority, everything else I can pretty much organize.

OK, so after that 5 seconds is over, then what do you do? Cool

I think we've been over this before:

Goosedog - 2012-04-11 6:07 AM I usually make it to transition when it's most crowded, rip off my sweats NBA-style to reveal my speedo and compression socks, extend both arms and exclaim, "Who wants some of this?"

Ditto on the evacuation. Decaf french roast does it every time.  I try to go for a double evac- one at home and one pre-race at the venue. One cup and home and then one on the way to the race usually gets it done.

Otherwise, I eat a cinnamon raisin bagel with butter, set up transition, do a swim warm up and get to the start where I will then pee in my wetsuit at the beginning of my wave.

Wake up at least an hour before my alarm, panicked that I slept through it (yeah, right). Sleep fitfully for the next half hour until I give up and get out of bed early.

Bathroom (although it's not quite a... production as you guys make it out to be. Maybe it's a guy thing?), take the dogs out, light breakfast, tea and waterwaterwater.

Re-check everything for the millionth time. Wake husband. Load up the car. Panic that I've left too late. Panic that I forgot something and re-check my bag AGAIN. Worry about traffic, even though it's 5 a.m. Worry that they'll close transition before I get there.

Show up in plenty of time, set up, re-arrange everything, re-arrange everything again. Eat a banana. Pace nervously, Body Glide and wetsuit. More nervous pacing and pep talking continues until the race start.

It's not a production, as much as it is a multi-stage event.

(I'm not a guy, though)

My friend (also a triathlete) and I always have a bet on race day on the over/under # of nervous pre-race poops.  He holds the record with 4.

Breakfast is always a bagel with PB&J.  It has never turned on me so I stick with it.

I usually don't have too much of race nerves. My routine actually start several days before the race... eat clean, lots of proteins (and high quality carbs, but carb loading is useless unless you deplete as well), drink lots of water. The night before the race, I eat a good meal, drink a few bottles of water with Nuun during the day (you don't want to start the race with reduced electrolytes in your system...).

I go through all my equipment and write a step-by-step race plan (including the transitions). This helps me be mentally ready.

Don't talk much. Don't let people touch you. Wear the same pre-race clothes except maybe hat. Never wear white sunglasses before a race.

Coffee. Red Bull. Always. Walk the transition area. Always tell other athletes to have a good race, but never "good luck".

Remember: Do what you do.

Walk the transition area.

Oh yeah, forgot about this. I'm the idiot counting racks out loud to herself, muttering, "Turn left at the trash can..."

^^^ This.  Been doing it ever since high school competitions (swimming).  Not necessarily Thunderstruck (although that would definitely work!), but find some music to really get the system set right and go tear it up!

I have a morning ritual that I need to share. I call it "the terminator". First I crouch down in the shower in the classic "naked terminator traveling through time" pose. With my eyes closed I crouch there for a minute, visualizing either Arnold or the guy from the second movie (not the chick in the third one because that one sucked) and I start to hum the terminator theme. Then I slowly rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me to proceed through my day as an emotionless, cyborg.
