Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 13/19
Pre-race routine:

not much of one really.. just tried to stay relaxed. A buddy of mine picked me up and we rode together. He helped with water support on his kayak. Ate a Powerbar.
Event warmup:

None really.. I swam about 20 feet just to get my eyes in teh dark before there were a bunch of big dudes flailing around me.
Swim
  • 17m 21s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt like it was a good swim. I was a little dissapointed at my time but i really didn't train much for the swim and took it kinda easy. My second bouy rounding blew arse.. i cut it pretty close which was good but got too confortable after I sighted the boat dock where we finished and kept my head down for a little too long. Next time i look up i don't even see the dang finish.. oops.. too wide of a turn again..
What would you do differently?:

Sight better.. probably push a little harder..
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

My Transitions times have become pretty good but I didn't want to race through them today and raise my heart rate anymore than where it already was. Also the socks i chose to wear this time were not the best ones for the job. The didn't go on too easily.
What would you do differently?:

different socks and hurry a little more.
Bike
  • 1h 25m 40s
  • 24.5 miles
  • 17.16 mile/hr
Comments:

Stupid wind! Heading out there was a pretty good head wind.. I was crusing on the flats at about 15 mph. 22mph on the way back in. I tried to take this easy so my run wouldn't be totaly miserable. I had no worries coming in about the swim or the bike. I knew that if I relaxed that the distances would be no problem. I do really need to get faster on the bike though. I have TONS of room for improvment here.
What would you do differently?:

loose 30 lbs and probably push a little harder.
need to ride more
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

no big deal here.
learning to take my feet out of my shoes before dismount and buying a race belt really makes T2 cake. the hardest part is finding your rack.. but that wasn't a problem today.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Run
  • 1h 03m 20s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

I was really worried about this leg the most. I had (until today) not ever ever had a good or comfortable run in a Tri. Today was totally different. Because I'd relaxed pretty well during the swim and bike I really had plenty left for the run. My legs felt suprisingly good right out of T2 and I'd really got into the run after about a mile. The slightly up-hill "out" part of the course wasn't all that great but it made for a nice downhill cruise on the way back. After about 4 miles I realized that I felt really really good so I started kicking and came in really strong. Felt great. I really enjoyed this run more than any other.. ever. training or racing.. tri or road race. fantastic.. I probably could have picked up the pace a little earlier and maybe gotten a sub 1 hour 10k but i guess that is my goal for next time.
What would you do differently?:

kick it in a little sooner..
loose 30 lbs.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around and drank water. I had a great group of jockstrappers there cheering me on which helped a ton.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of good training, my fat arse.. and my decision to take it easy.

Event comments:

This really is a fantastic race on a fantastic course. The bike course is fast and the run course is shaded. the views are great also.

I highly recommend it to any one in the area.

Great job Will! Sounds like you had a fantastic race. You're right, that course was beautiful, and I also had one of my "funnest" runs out there. Too bad we couldn't have any kind of BT get-together, but hopefully next time.

Congrats!

Nice job!  I wish we could figure out what makes the good runs good - then we could turn them all into great ones.   Was this your first Oly?  I think you were fast!

Yes.. first Oly..and my favorite race so far.. i guess because i felt in control the whole time.

i really think the good run was because i didn't push the bike.
that really helps the run out but doesn't do much for the bike... but frankly.. i'm fine with that

Excellent race. I haven't seen you around lately.

Did you get signed up for RiverCities?

Yeah.. life got busy all of a sudden so my BT posting time has taken a hit. I've been trying to keep up with the training and that is going ok.. but not great.

I decided to opt out of the rivercities this year. Only locals for me this year. HOpefully i'll be able to get out and about next year.

thanks for checkin in!
