One piece of tape across top, I use scotch that I have at house, then rip off bar when you need it and it's open ready to go. You can line them up, tape on on then life it a little and tape another under it etc. I've switch to a flask this season and love it b/c I can control when I get nutrition better, little at a time but remember nothing new on race day, just something to try and see if you like at some point. Depending on what distance you're talking about though I think your bento box should be sufficient for the shorter races. I recently started using Nuun's for electrolyte replacement in my Speedfil and I like those too for the warmer weather that's here.

Well, that's all I can think of right now, I'm sure others can expand.

Golf club grip tape. It is double sided and holds really well.

Electrical tape is the most common.

I go with this, and tape the top part of the Gu gel so it tears easily.

I also use electrical tape. I usely go ahead and tear the gu package a little and then tape it, this way it is a little easier while on bike.

Electrical tape will work, but there are other options. While we can't claim to be entirely objective about this, a Speedpack will be a lower drag option than a line of gu packets taped to your top tube:

With the introduction of bento boxes, aero bento boxes and gel flask I thought the days of taping gels to the top tube were long gone. I guess not

We're getting into thread drift territory, but I'll follow you into the rabbit hole Tongue out

I think Cervelo independantly test bottle configurations not too far back.  They concluded that a single bottle, placed in-line with the seat, no matter what the distance....tested fairly well.  So I really don't think Darks statement is ironic.  What I think is going on is that you, and quite a few others are misinformed and end up lumping all behind the seat hydration in one category.  Not all behind the seat configurations are created equal.

I haven't been keeping up lately, so my statements may be out of date.  But the Cervelo testing wasn't that long ago and probably still stand true.

Just like this

The tape remains on the bike the race until you take it off. It's like this so you just rip it off and the top piece rips off and stays with the bike so all you have to do is eat it!

Drag numbers #1

I believe this is the study you are citing???

This one talks about the behind the seat but does not give numbers in detail, just stating that bar-mounted are the fastest.

I use a ziptie. The gel packs I use(powerbar) are flared at the top so you can zip them right around the neck and when you're ready, they'll rip right open. No muss, no fuss !!

Cool

I use electrical tape too. I haven’t found the need to pre-tear the packets. Make sure they’re centered evenly and in a location where the edges of the packets won’t scrape your legs when you pedal.

I switched from a bento box to tape because I can put the packets in a specific order without having to search for them in the box. I like to have one kind of gel at the beginning of a ride and then switch to a different kind halfway through.

If you care about such things, you can get colored electrical tape to match your bike.

Electrical tape is the duct tape of the tri world.  I always have a roll in my tri bag.

I have a box now, but I always used Masking tape when I would tape gels on. I liked it because it would peel off clean with no glue residue and it didn't hurt the finish on my bike.

I find it much easier to just put a double quarter pounder with cheese in the pocket in the back of my jersey.   No tape necessary.

I use gaffer's tape, but mostly because I have it laying around. Strong and doesn't leave any sticky residue after the race. I don't use a bento box or anything because they are bulky and I don't want to mess with the zipper. Rip and sip. Grip and gulp. Tear and swear. Whatever.
