Overcast
Total Time = 1h 39m 16s
Overall Rank = 300/413
Age Group = 30-34F
Age Group Rank = 16/25
Pre-race routine:

ate half of english muffin with peanut butter (but it tasted like crap - different brand). Drank about 16 oz water. Stuff was packed night before.
Event warmup:

walked bike about half/three-quarters mile to race site. Got in water for about 10 min. swim.
Swim
  • 19m 59s
  • 800 meters
  • 02m 30s / 100 meters
Comments:

this was my first OW, so my goal was to get through it. It was REALLY well! I did a mix of freestlye, breast stroke and lame-o breast stroke (keeping my head out of the water to breathe, lol). I bumped into a few people (mostly the next wave of women who were faster and caught up - they were realy aggressive!). I did a good job of siting (helps to do breast stroke!). Over all, very good.
What would you do differently?:

Hmmm...I'll keep working on more freestyle and less breast stroke, but I wouldn't do anything different on THIS swim.
Transition 1
  • 03m 15s
Comments:

This one was a little slow, had to put on tank top (swam just in sports bra), and I put on my helmet then realized I needed to put my top on, had to take helmet off....
What would you do differently?:

probably could have been more organized. Also kept my water bottles in a cooler bag then had to put them in the cages, probably could sacrifice cold drinks for time...but it was so hot I wanted to make sure they were cold!!
Bike
  • 44m 5s
  • 12.3 miles
  • 16.74 mile/hr
Comments:

Probably could have pushed a little harder, but it was hot and I was concerned about the run. I was also feeling the swim (I was definitely ready to be done by the time I got out of the water!) But I definitely worked hard.
What would you do differently?:

would probably try to push the pace a little more.
Transition 2
  • 02m 4s
Comments:

this was a pretty good transition. Was slowed a little by my water belt, that I wore because I was concerned about feeling thirsty...I know, dramatic.
What would you do differently?:

hmm...nothing really
Run
  • 29m 55s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

WEll, it was still overcast (thank God!!!) but it was really warm. I kept pouring water on my head to keep cool, but I did get that red-face-about-to-explode feeling. The uphill part sucked, and I did have to walk just a couple times on the way up. Tried to stay strong and finish hard (but definitely did that last hill too hard!!).
What would you do differently?:

I think I did the best I could, honestly.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, ate banana.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

temperature, lack of training 2 weeks prior.

Event comments:

Great race, will definitely do again next year.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Awesome awesome first OWS swim. Yep, not anything different this time -- perfect -- and good takeaways for the next one!

Heat's a tough one, so good execution on the bike.

And good call on taking your fuel belt on the run ... need it for head-dumping as well as drinking.

Well done, Brie. Getting that first OWS race out of the way is a good feeling. You learned a lot of things and will do even better next time. But those times are good. No need to apologize, even with heat, tank top, etc., you did a wonderful job. (And when I first saw the title of the race, I was thinking "Damn Triathlon!!!" instead of "Dam Triathlon." lol

Nice job! Congrats on your first OWS!

My bf and I came up from Texas to do the race....it wasn't hot to us, but boy, that humidity! I was really happy for the downhill on the way back on the run course.  fun times!
