Run
Comments: I made a point of starting out toward the back of the pack, kept my pace at a moderate rate. I did not want to go out too fast, that is something I had done in other races. So I held back at the start. Running along there was a kid that passed me, wearing a hoodie and jeans. Course with the rain that made both pretty heavy, he said he was doing great had started in the back. He ended up walking not too much later, not sure where he finished. He asked if we were half way yet I checked my watch, 6:00 minutes into the race, I told him "Not even close." Once again I felt like the 1 mile was WAY longer than 1 mile. I don't think it was. Not sure what my split was for the one mile, just kept right on plugging away. Hit the drink stand, most people had passed it without taking a drink. I grabbed one, and about drowned myself trying to drink it. Hit the 2 mile marker, checked my watch.... 19:00 ????? WHAT 19:00 MINUTES, I figure it must have been short. I was feeling pretty good still, was wet all over, so I was PLENTY cool. I was running a good race, even with the up and down and wet. Finally came out into a clearing, thought "hey not too far to go, I should speed up." I didn't speed up, I was trying to keep my same pace. Glad I didn't I would have blown up. Distance at that point was likely another 3/4 of a mile. So I just kept running, I was starting to get pretty tired. Saw the sign for 3 miles, thinking to myself "Thank heavens it is almost done." I don't recall checking my watch, so I don't know what the time was. Kicked up the speed a little, turned the corner and headed in. Saw the time, 30:XX "WOW I can break 31:00 if I hurry." I picked it up just a little more, got to the finsih. 30:47 wow a PR. What would you do differently?: Not a darn thing! Post race
Warm down: Not much just a short jog, and standing around waiting to see if I got any hardware (I didn't, missed by a long time I think.) :-( What limited your ability to perform faster: 15 pounds of extra weight, and not enough miles since starting to run again. Event comments: They did better this time, actually handing out the awards later. They have just given all the awards in the past as people finished. Last updated: 2006-06-07 12:00 AM

Got to the park, saw some people from my tri club and talked with them.
Got to the park and jogged to the sign up and start area, then stood around a bit prior to jogging a little more to get warmed up. As I was jogging in the rain started coming down a little harder.
I ran a little more then stretched out. Event was delayed 15 minutes due to lightning and, then they told us that if we wanted a refund we could get our money back. By this point anyone that was going to wimp out had done so prior to paying their money.
