Swedish goggles for OWS?

Veteran  441   Clearwater, FL |  Subject: Swedish goggles for OWS?The salt kills my fog free Speedos in 3 or 4 weeks and Swedish goggles were recommended to me this afternoon. Pure awesomeness or is there something else that I should consider? |

I personally loved these goggles while racing in a pool and still use them in the pool for training. Would even consider using them in a lake OWS. They didn't work so well for me in the ocean. Also where it doesn't ever sound fun to be kicked in the face. It'd be even worse wearing swedes. To each his own but at $3 on ebay it's worth a shot |

Swedes work great for swimmers who's eye sockets they fit (and they rave about them endlessly), and suck for pretty much everyone else. They have a limited angle of vision, and sit in the eyesocket with no cushioning (sucks if you get kicked). IMO OWS goggles like the TYR Nest Pro and Aqua Sphere Kaiman are much better options. |

I use Swedish goggles and rave about them endlessly Now, seriously, I don't think there is any such thing as OWS and pool goggles - except for possible UV protection which is desirable in OWS and not required in indoor pools. Otherwise, if they fit, the will fit wherever you swim. Use goggles that fit well and that you trust. Swedes are cheap, give it a try and pass them on if you don't like them. Swedes are as "fog free" as all other goggles. The problem is usually that the anti-fog treatment is rubbed away when you clean them with your thumb. |

I am having problems with mine,,, after about 30 - 40 minutes my eyesockets hurt, was thinking about trying some " OWS" goggles with larger eye pieces. I don't have mine on too tight or at least if I ease up on them they leak a bit. Any suggestions for goggles with larger eye pieces? |

Champion 7136  Knoxville area | Subject: RE: Swedish goggles for OWS? They take a little time to get adjusted right (lightly sanding the edge helped mine fit and stay sealed) but they are pretty awesome when you get them set.
That said, I use goggles with gaskets for races. |

I actually did take a kick in the face - in the pool! a strong breast stroke kick, which is much worse than the freestyle kick that nobody does anyway. And I was wearing my swedes, they made a small fine cut in the skin on the chin but no damage to the eyes. I don't worry about being kicked, sure, partly because I know I'm faster, but also because freestyle kicks just ain't that strong, and paying attention you know if your in line for trouble. I'd worry more about people freaking out because they can't cope with the washing machine group start. |

However, it sounds akin to something with the cave diving I do: those of us who don't dive with helmets tend to be much more aware of where our heads are in relation to everything else sharing the environment. Granted, a swim start is much more dynamic than any cave, but I think I'll give them a shot. Thanks for the thoughts everyone! |
