Subject: A deal with God and the Devil, I mean my wife.

I'm not very religiousy, but my wife and her family are. For example, if there was a president of Church, my F.I.L. could be him. ANYWAY...my wife needs my help in church wrangling our kids, which, to be honest, they aren't that bad and they seem to like it.

Here's the deal: She wants me to go to church with her, and I want her to start working out with me. She doesn't expect me to be saved or redeemed or anything, and I don't expect her to sign up for any 5K or tri races.

Anyone make agreements with their S.O. such as this? Not necessarily church, but: if I do this then you have to do that. Oh jeez, I can see where the responses might be headed alreadyLaughing

I never make agreements like that with my wife, either i do it or i don't and that goes for her the same.

if i had to do something i didn't want to do because of an agreement it wouldn't work anyway because i don't stand behind it.

I made a deal with my wife once. I got her to do her first and only tri. In exchange I joined a soccer team with her that I hadn't wanted to do. She enjoyed the tri and I enjoyed playing with my wife. That's a big difference than going to church though.

In our house the only real agreement is that we give things a try before we make a decision.  My wife wanted me to go to church with her and the kids and I agreed to give it a try.  That was a couple of years ago and I still attend, even when she doesn't.  OTH, we ran 3 miles together tonight and as a family we have done 5K's and other races.  I don't expect her to do Tri's but I wanted her to exercise.  She has been a runner for a couple of years and my son is in his 2nd year of cross country, its my daughters first year of cross country.

To me its about balance and respecting each others opinion.  If I had said no after attending for awhile she would have been good with my decision.

Sounds like a set-up.

If you hadn't picked the title that you did, I'd say that it sounds ok.

I used to go to church with my wife and kids (no one goes anymore).  As an agnostic (but believer in God) I think that organized religion is a monumental barrier to a peaceful world.  I only went to have an hour of quiet reflection.  Only very occassionally did the message of the priest resonate with me.

An hour running on a trail with my dog brings me closer to God and inner piece than an hour in a gilded building.

In my experience, making deals to do things you each don't want to do ends badly most of the time.

Yes, but we know each other's safe words so it's ok.

We've made far too many agreements like this, but typically it's "I'll let you buy that if you let me buy this".  Those are a quick path to a lot of debt.  been there done that.

I don't see why you can't do both?  Church doesn't destroy you as a person.  If anything, it will encourage your wife and I have found that kind of encouragement is always returned.

My wife is a personal trainer, and we have 2 kids and we go to church.  It is good for everybody.  We get gym time in, we get training time in, and we get church time in.

Go for it.  It won't make you a "worse" person...I would HOPE.

...reminds me of a girl I once knew...a beautiful angel who was a real demon in the sack.
