Pre-race routine:

Got about 3 1/2 hours sleep after work this morning, got up, ate pancakes at 11:30 then headed for the race.
Event warmup:

Swam across the lake to the start line. 400 yards opposite direction of the race swim.
Swim
  • 06m 44s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Best swim I've ever had at this race by far. I've always blown up about halfway across the lake here but this year I didn't. Felt really good through the first 200 yards and then picked up the pace the second 200 yards.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I am really happy with this swim!!
Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Pretty smooth transition. Could have been a bit faster but I walked about 1/2 way up the hill from the water then started running to my bike. Just wanted to enjoy the race!
What would you do differently?:

Could have run all the way from the water.
Bike
  • 33m 58s
  • 12.2 miles
  • 21.55 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty good on the bike, considering the wind. Passed 7 people and got passed once.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

Really quick transition. Happy with this one.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 23m 10s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Took it easier on the run than last year. I'm not in quite as good of shape, speed wise, as last year. Better endurance by far but just haven't done as much speed work. And I also didn't want to pull something 1 week away from Ironman so did this run at about 90%+ effort. Got passed by 5 people, 2 of whom were in my AG of course. But I was able to talk with them and just enjoy the race so it was all good.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Could have gone a bit faster but wasn't too worried about it.
Post race
Warm down:

Talked with my brother who was there watching. Trying to get him hooked! Had some fruit and water and talked with some of the other athletes that I knew.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more speedwork for running but it was ok.

Event comments:

This race has gotten bigger every year I've done it. It's a lot of fun with good community support.
PR'd for this course by 58 seconds over last year so I'm happy with that. Lots better competition here than last year though. I was 3rd in AG last year, but this year was 7th even though I was faster. It would be nice it they'd add a Clydesdale class in this race. All those little people keep edging me out of the bling!

Stan ... the only guy I know who goes out and does a tri in the taper phase.  Then again, it's better than doing a plain ole brick.

Nice race too!  You did awesome!  Enjoy the rest of your taper, and I'll keep sending good vibes your way.
