Hi All -

I am hoping to resurrect the Peach Challenge. The goal is to achieve a peach square on your training calendar for the whole month. The qualifying activity and duration is up to you but the idea is to do something every day

I finished my first IM and need some motivation and support to get back into regular activity to save me from permanent sloth!

Anyone interested in joining me?

May I join the Peach Challenge? Have a HIM on October 7th as my last race of the season. It would be good to have a motivator for the rest of the month.

Oh, can I join?  This is exactly what I need since I'm trying to ease back in after back issues have sidelined me.  Maybe it can get me properly trained for my first tri at the end of Oct.

Excellent! All are welcome!

It will work well if we all check in at least once a week - daily is welcome - don't disappear if you miss a day!  This isn't about perfection.  Life happens.

So, how about you start by introducing yourself and what your threshold is for a peach ...

I'll start

For me, I am Jen. I did my first Ironman in August. I was thrilled with how it went but was pretty exhausted after a busy spring and summer.  I've been slacking on the weeknights when i intended to get my butt to some yoga classes and keep up with swimming. But i've been watching a lot of TV instead ...

For my peach: pretty well any activity will count - except walking - for me, this would be a 'weenie' peach since I don't own a car and have a dog that needs walking.  Now, if I were to walk a 5k briskly then i might count it.  I want to keep up more fitness activities other than the built in walking in my life

(Note: walking is just fine as a peach - if that works for you)

My name is Pam, 50 y.o., wife and mom, and I live in Fl.  I began running 3 years ago.  DH decided to train for a tri at the first of the year so he bought a bike and began swim lessons.  I told him I wouldn’t go into the tri world but yea, famous last words.  Decided to get a bike this summer and DH instantly went and bought me a nice one.  But I’m a klutz and wrecked so many times so now I ride with standard pedals.  Have my first tri (a sprint) at the end of Oct and my second ultra in Dec.  August, I had two weeks of no training due to a undiagnosed respiratory infection and now I’ve lost two weeks this month due to back issues.  I’ve got to start back.

For my peach status, I’ve got to get back to running (hopefully 5 days a week) and I’ve got to work on the biking (I’m so slow).  I also need time in the pool but TBH, my biking is so bad that all my “extra” time needs to be spent attempting to improve my lousy 10 mph.  Walking will count for me because right now, I’ve got to slowly ease back into running and not damage my back.  (But I only log walking when it’s true training; not for the regular day-to-day functions.)  Also, stretches (yoga-like), core work, and resistance training will count for me but I hope they only help me get peach status on the run and bike rest days.

Looking forward to this.  And Jen, wow!  My hat’s off to you on your IM!!!!!

Another 50 y.o. here! I'm Anne.  Have done a handful of tris each year since 2008. Before that I was a runner. I got more into mountain biking this year and raced the bike leg of an Xterra in August. I am a bit of a klutz and somewhat injury prone and the mtb has been a little rough on my body.  Right now I am babying a high hamstring injury (real pain in the butt literally) and have my last race of the season on October 7th --- it's a HIM. When that's over, my plan is to take a break from running to give my leg a break.

My threshold for a peach square would be 15 minutes of anything except leisurely walking.  This will probably be strength, yoga, swimming and biking.  And some aqua jogging.

I'm in!  This is just what I need.  I'm Chris, 34, teacher in San Francisco.  I've been pseudo-sidelined for months with back issues that actually turned out to be a hip issue.  An MRI showed I have something called femoroacetabular impingement.  Basically I can't run long distances (anything past 3-4 miles) without severe pinching in my hip.  Since 2003, I've run 2 marathons, multiple halves, 4 olympic triathlons, multiple sprints, and one Tough Mudder (yes, it's REALLY TOUGH!).  Each time I tried to train for an HIM, my hip/back would put me out for months.  That's the long back story!

So, since December, I've been working on getting stronger.  CrossFit has done wonders for me.  Since this past August when I moved schools and grade levels, work has taken over!  I've also been sick twice.  So, I have to get my rear back in gear, or my rear will keep expanding.

My goal is to workout 5-6 days per week and have 1-2 rest days per week.  On rest days, I'm going to shoot for a 30-60 minute walk instead of a true rest day.  My workout days will consist of any of the following:  cycling, running, CrossFit, gym interval workout, long hike (I live among lots of hills!), and maybe swimming if I really find motivation.

Thanks for setting up the challenge!

Another 50(+) year old here. I HAVE to put my abysmal September training month behind me. If I had been better, I would have been with Ann at her Oct 7th race! Minimum 30 minutes a day for me. Mostly running since I am starting my marathon training  this month.

Very cool to see so many 50 year olds here.  I'll be 51 this month.  Us more mature people have some unique challenges that the "youngsters" can't begin to fathome. lol!  Hi Robin!  Forget about September and move forward.  It's going to be a great month for us all!

Oooh, me me me!

I just did my first tri in early September.  I spent the entire summer training for it though my dedication to getting out and training left a lot to be desired.  My husband works a lot and with 3 little kids it was always easy to find an excuse to not be able to go out.  Fortunately, it still went well enough that I'm excited to do another one!  So, with winter on the way - we got a treadmill and a bike trainer.  This will let me get something done after the kids go to bed, even if my husband is still at work.  I hope to do an Olympic length in the summer and a Sprint in the spring so I want to be sure to keep training - this is exactly what I need.

So, what counts as peach... purposeful exercise.  Putting on the right shoes and doing something for at least 15 minutes sounds good.  I won't count walks with the kids because those are too slow but I will walk on my rest day so I keep in the groove of daily activity.  I will also count strength training because I need to start doing some of that.

I have a 10K on Sunday morning so I have to get ready for that.  I bruised my toe during my tri and haven't done anything for 3 weeks now.  I've never run 10K in my life so anything I can do this week to build my confidence without getting too tired is in order.  So, run run run and maybe walk Friday and Saturday.

I'm in! I just did my first Ironman at the end of July and have been struggling since to workout. After taking a month off I thought I'd be back in but it's been rough.

My goal is to do some type of SBR 5-6 days a week. I have a ballet class on Mondays that is very difficult... turns out I am not super flexible and do not possess great posture. And then the other day I want to hike or go for a walk. For me, I'll set a duration of 30 minutes minimum to count.

Bring on October.

Very cool that strengthening through Crossfit helped your hip issue.  I think several of my issues could be resolved with a little more strengthening.  Good luck this month!

Congrats on your first IM! That is very cool about the ballet class--- do you have a dance background or are you taking the class to work on flexibility? Seems like ballet would be a killer workout for coordination, concentration and core strength.

Hi! I'm Courtney. I'd like to join in too. I just finished the September Challenge, which was my first time on the challenge forum. I fell a little bit short of my goal, but I liked having the extra motivation!

This is my first season doing tri's, and now my season is pretty much over, but I'd like to keep active through the cold months. I'll probably be doing some other things besides S/B/R that I've neglected, like yoga and strength training. Anything over 30 minutes will count as a peach for me. I also usually bike to work (8 miles each way) as often as I can, and I'll count that as a workout.

And I like that this challenge will force me to keep my logs up to date, since I'm terrible at that!

Happy Oct 1st, fellow Oct Peaches!  Today, my goal is a simple 30 minute run right after school.  It's already 87 outside and may get to the mid-90s by the time I head out.  However, I gotta do it!

The October Peach Challenge is officially underway!!!  My schedule called for a rest day today, but I did some strength work and lots of stretching.  And some foam roller, which really should count as a workout, as painful as it is.
