Overcast
Total Time = 5h 26m 59s
Overall Rank = 25/125
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 2/7
Pre-race routine:

rasin bran, 20oz gatorade, 20 oz infinit...could have used more food
Event warmup:

minor stretching
Swim
  • 37m 35s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

better swim than April and May wetsuit tri's ...
What would you do differently?:

practice technique
Transition 1
  • 05m 49s
Comments:

First time using changing tent. It was okay but I'd rather have my gear by my bike instead of the whole bag shuffle thing. The bag's were organized and distributed to athletes in motion very well.
Bike
  • 3h 15m 19s
  • 66.3 miles
  • 20.37 mile/hr
Comments:

The course was 2.3 miles longer than advertised and judged against. Good organized race but RD PLEASE GET THE DISTANCE RIGHT. TWC said 8mph winds. At the swim start the flag was rippling briskly...looked more like a 15-20 mph. Doesn't matter, the wind falls on the just and the un-just. Stopped to void 3 times. Kept the HR in the mid 130 to low 140's. Mostly under 140.
What would you do differently?:

lost time peeing but I'm not holding it for 3 hours...and since I wasn't changing out of my bibs I wasn't do the nasty
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

happy with t2
Kid volunteers take your expensive bike from you and rack it as you get your bag handed to you and go to changing tent...volunteers did great
Run
  • 1h 26m 19s
  • 10 miles
  • 08m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

run hurt the whole time started in the mid 130 HR. I didn't know my pace but figured I was in the mid 8's when I got to 150 HR. I stayed in the low to mid 150's from mile 2-10
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

little food, quick shower, quad massage, hung out with T1 rack mates. We finished with in 10 seconds of each other

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think I left it all on the course. No regrets

Event comments:

This was a good race for the race itself. It was the pre and mostly the post that irked me. I mostly don't care about swag. But, as a 1/2 competitor (or Oly) your given an all encompassing event shirt that promotes the name of the ultra event. Get a medal (it's nice but they go in a drawer to toss later). The awards ceremony was >40 min late and the announcer stopped it to give updates on the Ultra. There were awards for 1,2,3 for most age groups but not others. It was frustrating to watch. In the end it was worth it as a training race for my 140.6 next month. I would do it again for that. I would not do Skipjack as an A race or a way to cap off the year...

hey I was there!  I was dying on those last 15 miles on the bike. I had 67. something for the bike.  yeah, its the stepchild of the full, but not as bad as it used to be. The first year I did it they told me to get out of the way for the first runner when I was finishing my half. ha!  I like it just as an easy going end of the year race.

Good luck on your IM.

Hey, it's Josie, your T1 buddy! I just did my post-race survey from TriColumbia and pretty much echoed your sentiments from your race report. I also asked if they could do something about the wind on the bike Great race and good luck in your IM!

Congrats on the podium. I hope to do this one next year just because my son's name is Jack, and I want the medal with the name. But I am also thinking about shooting for the AV next year. Would have been with you in Clydes this year, but I'm heading to B2B for the half.

Sounds windy. Not a fan. But good on you for the 2nd place AG!

Turtlegirl-How about that last 15! That was a work out.Dag, they asked you to move it? SO WRONG! Very forgiving of you to come back.  It is a nice venue and they do rock the bag movement. If they lost the tude I bet they could get 3-400 out for the half.

Oneskineekosie- Great username! You and Rob made it a hoot. Hard to believe we finished 3 in a row...with you leading the way..great job holding the lead. I was trying to catch you for 3 miles!

Claw - dude, I'm doing B2B...it would be my pleasure to hand off the Skipjack medal. Its a nice medal as medals go. And it does have the name Jack in it. Say the word and it yours in Wilmington. Clydesdales Unite!

Maria-Rocked it? You rocked IronmanAugusta 70.3. this weekend. I'm hoping to stay with in an hour of your finish time!

Awesome job! I did it too and those last 15 miles combined with the fact that the bike was LONG was pretty demoralizing. It just would not end! I agree that I wouldn't do this as an A race---it was my warmup for Arizona next month I guess I have to get used to those winds!

Very nice gesture, but I don't want a medal I didn't race for. I would love to show it to my son, turning six right before the trip, and tell him I'll get one for him next year. Did you see my post about the B2B gathering? We have a beach house for the week, and I am inviting BT folks to come over Sunday afternoon and evening. We would love to have you there.

You had me running scared for those 3 miles! The 3 in a row at the finish was quite impressive, I must say. And I'm glad you enjoyed the Josie and Rob show. We'll be here all week...try the veal! Lol. You should have heard us in the car on the way home...
Again, great race and it was a pleasure to meet you.
