Total Time = 1h 27m 30s
Overall Rank = 178/1067
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 25/94
Pre-race routine:

Got out of bed at 3:00am and took a quick 'wake-up' shower. Loaded the car and ate some eggs and oatmeal. Got my transition ready and waited for the right time to do a warm up.
Event warmup:

Ran about a mile and a half with Jen and stretched. Wetsuit on and a short swim to flush the pee out of the wetsuit.
Swim
  • 14m 13s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 54s / 100 meters
Comments:

Jetskis are a bad idea. It was great to have their help but they need to stay off the throttle. It was very much like swimming in the ocean... I would think.
What would you do differently?:

Pick a better position to start the swim. I got run over at the start. I think I broke some guys nose who tried to cut me off.:)
Transition 1
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

This was my fastest T1 ever, can't complain.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting into shoes on the bike.
Bike
  • 45m 38s
  • 17 miles
  • 22.35 mile/hr
Comments:

This is the first time that I ranked higher on the bike than the swim. It went really well and I beat my goal.
What would you do differently?:

Ride my tri-bike more on rolling hills in training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

I took a second or two to get some gatorade in me so I wouldn't get dehydrated on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Train with Gatorade or something with electrolytes on the bike. My stomach doesn't like it in the heat.
Run
  • 25m 14s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Once again, fast for me but slow for the field. 8:08/mile is a PR for me in a Tri but I want to be faster. It would seem that Ryan should do my run and I should do his swim.
What would you do differently?:

Drink something other than water on the bike so I don't have to drink on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Pack up and head to the vet to see the puppy. I was pretty bummed that I couldn't hang out, but I was more worried about my pup.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm not sure I could have performed faster.

Event comments:

The Rattlesnake was pretty good but this gave it a pretty good run for the money. I loved the bike coarse and the run was a little exposed but overall it was a good race.

Nice race, and f you can figure out a way to swim for me and let me run for you, let me know - I'm all over that!! You've already made some good progress from last year and sub-8 miles on the run isn't all that far off.

I passed you on the dam - you were on your way in and I was on my way out and you seemed like you were flying to me. Too bad you couldn't hang out but I hope your puppy is doing ok.

Great race - I know it must have been tough when your puppy is not doing well - I'm glad he seems to be getting better.
