Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona - I signed up!It's funny. Six months ago, I had only vague thoughts of ever competing in a triathlon. Now, I have progressed from being iffy as to whether or not to do a Half Ironman this year to signing up for an Ironman! I have wanted to do an IM, but thought that it would be in a couple of years. HOWEVER, by buddy from Lufkin and my brother-in-law both signed up for Arizona, so I thought this would be a great adventure for us to undertake together. Holy Crap. Training plan? I have not settled on that yet. I have a plan set out for the next 11 weeks to get me to the TexasMan Half-Ironman. After that, I have a vague notion that I am going to work on my aerobic base for the rest of September, October and November. Beginning in January, I will start active preparations. One of the goals along the way is the Houston Marathon on 16-Jan. Should be a piece of cake, right? One of the things that convinced me I could do an IM was reading the descriptions of the training plans on www.trainingbible.com. One is "13-Hour Ironman in 13 weeks". It's highest volume week is 13 hours of training, and I have time for tha, and maybe a little more! I guess you don't have to train 30 hours a week for an IM. But I still have some research to do there. Thanks to all of you for your kind words and encouragement! I would be glad to meet any of you guys out there in April. We just need to set a time and place. |
