What has probably happened is that the list code tags within the document (you can't see them even with codes turned on) have gotten out of whack through multiple revisions. Take the whole document and drop it into notepad. That will strip all the formatting. Then start over with list formatting, paying careful attention to where the cursor is and using the increase indent button to create lower levels in the list. It's a kluge, but it will work. Yeah, automatic formatting works better when you are starting from scratch. The problem I was having was starting a new list in sequential order. So, chapter 1 would look perfect. I would go to start a new list in chapter 2 and it would renumber all of chapter 1. I was pulling my hair out... I see. If you are using 2010, you can right-click immediately after the last item in the list and get the option to restart at 1. I don't know if this carries across sections, though. The list goes something like this: 1.1 1.1.1 1.1.2 1.2 1.2.1 1.2.2 1.2.3 1.3 2.1 2.1.1 2.1.2 2.2 2.3 2.3.1. 2.3.1.1 2.3.1.2 2.3.2 etc. etc. The right clicking and restarting at one seems to work SOMETIMES but not all the time...it is as if there are some code tags left floating in there. I had to retype a bunch of stuff to get rid of some of the more troublesome areas...but I finally got it looking pretty and now as long as I don't mess too much with paragraphs it should be OK. re: Scudrunner...checklist on the whiteboard wouldn't be wing standard! :D Or I'd do it! |
