I'm just curious, how many of you are spending cash right now?  Not personally, in a business capacity.

As best I can tell Bernanke is trying to inflate the economy.  Traditional schooling says when they inflate the best thing to do with your money is spend not hoard.  You basically lose money hoarding it and get a break deploying it.

So with the printing presses running at $85 Billion per month I was just wondering who's saving and who's spending?

I'm spending. Not a lot, but I have to make some capital investments to handle a new client. I'll also be hiring in the next month, and I had someone start half time today. Everything has been self-financed but we are reaching the point where we have to look for investors or partner on one of our drug discovery projects. That requires deep pockets and a higher level of risk than I can afford.

I just made a substantial capital investment but it's one that will have a good ROI so I'm not too worried.  Our business is actually growing.  Funny enough I'm hearing Obamacare being blamed for companies wanting to move more towards automation to keep themselves under 50 employees.

We're getting ready to hire someone so we're saving up to hedge against any potential slow-downs in the real estate market (in other words, we want to be able to pay him even if we're not in the black). I'm not sure what we'd go spend our money on anyway, our overhead is very low. I guess maybe a tablet or bigger computer screen or something. Not sure how that gives me a break on my money, though, Mr. Bernanke.

Just hired a new sales person.  My business is only 4 years old so I have always put everything back into the company.

I'm spending.  I've brought on 4 new employees and have seen double digit growth in each quarter for the last 5 quarters.

Unfortunately for the US, we have an offer from the state of Bahia in Northeast Brazil to move our Florida aircraft manufacturing plant there.  They are making an offer we just cannot refuse and will be putting around 300 people to work.  Too bad the US can't make us a similar financial offer.

Spending.   We just cleared out the account to make a substantial (compared to the size of our business) capital purchase.  It should return our money in 3-4 months and then double it over the next 24 months.  And that is being very conservative.  I am also looking to hire 1-2 part-time employees in the next 3-4 months.  And this is our slow season.

Far be it from me to second guess someone elses' business decisions but I'd caution you to do a LOT of research (and then some more) before doing this.  I've been part of 3 offshoring operations in the past.  Every single one of them came back to the US (at a significant cost) because of quality problems.

Cost of goods sold is not the only factor.

Not exactly small business oriented but Challenger layoffs data came out today way lower than expected, and ADP corporate hiring came way stronger than expected. Maybe a sign of good things to come economically. Probably pretty reflective of what you all have alreadt been saying here. Very good question Justin.
